I watched this with the sound down (it's got subtitles). What is the BBC thinking? I see it comes from BBC Scotland. I feel yet another complaint to the BBC coming on.

Surely the idea of BBC social is that it’s people posting their own videos not bbc prescribed?

OhHolyJesus · 21/11/2018 09:01

Wow, what was that? No science there. The presenter was a transwoman? A parent? A psychologist? Didn't seem to have anything to offer apart from an opinion.

littlbrowndog · 21/11/2018 09:15

Omg that person just watching and had to stop
The gurning and aggressive speaking
Wtaf is the bbc doing
Seems that the new bible from tra’s is it’s young ppls attitude about gender an£ how liberal this all is
It’s all great and groovy
No mentions of distress and un tested drugs and mutilating surgery

servalan7 · 21/11/2018 09:39

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-scotland-46240742/being-young-and-transgender-in-a-scottish-school
And another from BBC Scotland.

OhHolyJesus · 21/11/2018 09:41

I'm finding the debate in general more and more dishonest. Whenever Mermaids or Susie Green is mentioned not one programme producer includes facts about how the Thai government made the surgery Jackie had was made illegal afterwards, or how it was illegal in the Uk and that's why they went to Thailand in the first place.

When suicide figures are quoted it always relates to trans issues and not mental health and they are broadly misquoted.

So much of it is opinion and not facts and how this will ever get anywhere other than a gaping wide hole between the two 'sides' I don't know - I don't see how it can ever be resolved.

Bittermints · 21/11/2018 10:23

Rageagainstthepenguins, I don't know, haven't seen anything from BBC Social before, but surely somebody at the BBC is checking to make sure they're not putting their name to something illegal or against their charter or which would bring the BBC into disrepute?

Bbc social is very bbc3 and about people sharing their opinions, so don’t think we are their target audience

MrsWooster · 21/11/2018 10:51

BBC still have duty of care to viewers; they wouldn't give a paedophile airtime, or anyone promoting harm to another group, so how is this harmful material ok? Plus the presenter is v scary .

Vanessamessa · 21/11/2018 10:57

What have I just seen, a video targeted at kids.. directly suggesting that grown up people (aka your parents) are wrong to believe there are only two biological sex categories. And suggesting that most kids (which is a category all children want to be in) are cool with the sex spectrum lies, and then suggesting that legitimate (read inculcated) gender disphoria can start as young as three years old. Lovely, thanks beeb for this post truth bullshit.

TinyRick · 21/11/2018 10:59

I lasted about a minute.

That person is annoying af.

Vanessamessa · 21/11/2018 11:03

Oh and the vicious lie that puberty blockers are a ‘pause button’, is an unacceptable sanitisation of the extreme and life changing effects of the drug on children’s bodies. Ffs how is ever acceptable to intentionally lie to children about this.

Vanessamessa · 21/11/2018 11:05

MrsWooster, agreed. Though i fear your first example might have more overlap than you think.

NotTerfNorCis · 21/11/2018 11:08

Ha before I saw the video I knew the presenter would be that individual, based on your comments.

beenandgoneandbackagain · 21/11/2018 11:42

I have no idea what is happening at the BBC. When I worked there, the number of transpeople were negligible. I didn't know any, though did know plenty of non-conforming homosexuals of both sexes, many in positions of authority and power. Now it seems as though the translobby have a foothold and are pushing anything and everything trans, and nothing for homosexual teenagers. It's very sad.

i don't know how the lesbians can stand by and watch this happen.

SuperLambBananas · 21/11/2018 13:12

Lesbians anywhere are at the bottom of the LGBT+ pile. I'd imagine expressing dissent at the BBC would not go well.

Frankly at this stage I'm glad lesbians are being ignored in programme making. Anything they make for us now will state that lesbians not only can be men, but can also be attracted to men.

There's genuinely no combination of sexes that can't now be described as a lesbian relationship under new translaw. I don't want young lesbians seeing that.

SuperLambBananas · 21/11/2018 13:13

I said lesbians a lot.

Lesbians

FloralBunting · 21/11/2018 15:10

SuperLamb, this whole thing is nutty than a Snickers bar, but you just made me laugh. I shall now be spontaneously saying lesbians at random moments throughout the day.
