Looks interesting. Does anyone have a share token?

Gosh the comments underneath are frightful. She’s telling the story of how she made a mistake and how others will too if the trans agenda gets its way and the response from readers is to slate her for believing transing was the answer in the first place. DT readers are awful.

I haven’t made it through the paywall, but Cale was also featured in this recent Sun article: www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/7362652/changing-gender-new-anorexia/

Doesn't surprise me at all. It's the fashion at the moment. Hopefully there are parents out there who will not indulge their children who say they want to change sex or believe they are in the wrong body. Had mine said that I would have replied, "That's fine dear but you have to wait until you're older", and changed the subject.

Annandale · 20/11/2018 19:40

Really Rachel? There seems to be a high proportion of children with either autism, a history of sexual abuse or both who find a psychological 'home' with the idea of transition away from their existing bodies. You wouldn't be even slightly curious about what had made them say a thing like that?

That’s online discourse for you. Any admission you made a mistake is an invitation to be criticised for making the mistake in the first place.

I don't think Rachel is lacking in curiosity, Annandale. I read her comment very differently. I agree with her that not jumping to endorse gender confusion is a reasonable course of action. I also agree that any treatment should wait until people are legally adult.

Authorities have said that even social transition can be harmful, in that it's so fashionable to be transgender in some circles that kids can find it very hard to change their minds once they've made it public. I definitely wouldn't encourage it.

Annandale · 20/11/2018 20:23

No I totally agree prawn.

Sorry Rachel.

I'm probably the only genuine transphobe on Mumsnet so I do try to combat those feelings, but it also makes me paranoid about the issue coming up among children I know. I'll have to watch out for overreaction in myself.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 20/11/2018 20:31

Why do you see yourself as a transphobe, Annandale? I've never noticed it.

There are definitely trans individuals I can't abide but that's because they're nasty, not because they're trans

Annandale · 20/11/2018 20:37

I would separate my rational opinions about transgender issues, which I think are completely legitimate and I would defend to anyone [a bit carefully as I am not as knowledgeable or articulate as say Kathleen Stock] but I have an undercurrent of discomfort at being with people I read as trans, which I think is genuine and illegitimate transphobia. I therefore try to explore my own opinions carefully to see whether irrational prejudice is influencing them, and I try to bend over backwards to embrace what positives I can find in the existence of the trans phenomenon. As many feminists would say, trans people and feminists ought to be allies as their suffering shows up toxic masculinity and toxic femininity for the delusions and chains that they are.

It the sun article - at the end - points people towards bloody mermaids! 🙄
