On international mens day. Fucking hell. And a woman running it too facepalm

Large engineering company 2.5k employees at our site alone... failed miserably on the pay equality reporting and brought out a poster explaining how it's cause the menfolk are all managers and the women are admin.. no shit Sherlock?!

The thing is I'm actually not one of those "mens day is 365 days of the year" type people. I kinda get the mental health aspect of it. But some of the bulletpoints where just... men between the ages of 20-30 are much less likely to go to the doctors. Well considering I've been every 3 months at one stage for a bloody contraceptive injection I can kinda see that being true- so what?!

God I despair sometimes. Sorry I just needed a rant!

^^ Yes - I often think items like this are overlooked but have a feeling that they'd be bruited about in a positive way if it were the men receiving the jab on that sort of schedule.

Likewise, oddly enough, the sex that bears young is likely to be the one to actually nip along and confirm they're pregnant, attend related appointments, possibly develop anaemia that needs follow-up care etc. Who knew?

I expect this means they're analysing why there are no women managers, then, and taking action to mitigate the systemic barriers, then...

I have been wishing male colleagues "Happy International Men's Day!" They have mostly looked bemused (which just encouraged me.)

Are men not a diverse group that should be included?

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/11/2018 15:52

No. They are already over-included.

Glitched · 19/11/2018 15:53

So diversity and inclusion only includes and applies to women?

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/11/2018 15:54

No.

Glitched · 19/11/2018 15:54

Your two points contradict and don't make sense

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/11/2018 16:03

No. Men generally are over represented in nearly all workplaces. There are other specific groups that are under represented such as BAME groups, disabled people and so on. So men with those additional factors should be included, obviously, but not men generally without any qualification. I thought that was fairly obvious!

Glitched · 19/11/2018 16:15

Your ideology is obvious

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/11/2018 16:17

Thanks!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/11/2018 16:26

Lets hope that the policy also notes that men are less likely to stop working or drop to part time so that they can take care of their children!

The company I work for (multinational, very diverse) has just published some new healthcare related info on their website and have added the following:

'Being transgender has nothing to do with a person’s sexual orientation. You can be a trans man and be gay or be a trans woman and be lesbian.'

There is a section for comments at the end of the page. Is it possible for me to add some helpful text on the definition of homosexual without getting the sack??
