Apologies if this has been covered before. Excellent letter from WPUK setting out their response to having their booking of Leeds Civic Hall cancelled at very short notice a few weeks ago. Taken with what emerged from the many FOI requests, the Council doesn't come out of this well. womansplaceuk.org/dear-leeds-council/

Good

Interesting.

Following receipt of this letter, we are now in correspondence with Leeds Council.

If Leeds City Council have any sense they will take up WP's offer of a meeting and issue an apology.

Because otherwise legal action beckons.

An apology plus an offer to host another meeting free of charge should do it.

Leeds Council deserves its own entry in Private Eye's Rotten Boroughs - apart from this nonsense, I hope the ICO penalises them heavily for their errors in response to the first release of documents under FOI when they released the name and phone number of the local organiser.

Leeds City Council is indeed featured in the current issue, alongside Liverpool and Cambridge.

Good letter. I hope Leeds Council will remedy their misogynistic actions.

I am totally in awe of these women. Thank you so much for sharing Bittermints x

How shameful that Leeds City Council – in its own words an organisation “committed to public sector guidelines on equality”– seeks to deny these women a voice. How cowardly, too, to cite “security” as an issue, and to cave in to extremist misogynistic bullies who issue threats of violence against women.

Leeds City Council exists to serve the needs of its citizens, who pay for its services through taxation. In cancelling the booking, and generating a false version of events, Leeds City Council has betrayed the right of its own citizens to meet peacefully to discuss a public consultation on legislative changes. Despite its claims to support equality, it has actively discriminated against women, denying them the opportunity to discuss a piece of legislation that directly affects them.

We look forward to receiving an apology from the council for its shameful behaviour in closing down women’s right to speak freely about matters of deep personal concern to them.

Well said. It might be an idea to send that to WYP as well.

Good job WPUK
the arses with their lies about a ceiling falling down

TheLastMermaid · 17/11/2018 07:55

Respect, admiration and solidarity.

Thankyou WPUK for all you are doing.

Floisme · 17/11/2018 09:54

Good work WPUK. I imagine there's a case for defamation, particularly against Cllr 'It's-our-room' Lennox, but rather than some out of court agreement, I think I'd rather see the letter published everywhere and Leeds City Council and their elected representatives exposed for the lying, misogynistic ninnies they are.

StroppyWoman · 17/11/2018 10:50

Excellent response from WPUK

Thank goodness for Womens Place. That is an excellent letter that shows up certain members of Leeds Council - who should be ashamed of their behaviour and for slandering WPUK.

Although a council which is letting a failing 'managed' prostitution zone continue has already got a terrible attitude to supporting women.
