Aimee Challenor interview on Disability Arts

Interesting interview on Disability Arts online with Aimee Challenor about being trans and autistic, and the supposed barriers put up for autistic people.
A number of of reasonably sensible quotes from NHS England, I thought but they're dismissed fairly quickly in the article.
Still, it's good to see that doctors are aware of autism as a correlating factor and taking this into account even if they're being put under pressure not to.
They also mention Aimee's history with the greens but nothing to do with the reason for Aimee's suspension.
I guess they either didn't google Aimee before publishing, or are dismissing it.

Is a person guilty by association? How likely is Aimee a victim of her father? Has no one ever trusted and believe in someone they shouldn’t? It seems she is guilty of poor judgement after a far from ideal childhood. In that case, allowing somone to move on might be the right thing to do.

TrashyTerf · 16/11/2018 07:47

@MIdgebabe

No, Aimee is not guilty by association. I'm sure most people can see that she has had a tough childhood.

However, Aimee should have informed the Greens, and everyone else, about her father's trial. By not, she was potentially putting people in danger. Also, she should have complied with the Green's investigation.

MIdgebabe · 16/11/2018 07:57

Yes she certainly should, but I think I can see why she might have not.

denial driven by fear and I think in the same circumstances many others have done the same. Trust blindly someone who nominally promises love to the point you don’t think straight.

For me, the discussion about trans and autism correlation and how the NHS deals with it (or should deal with it) is most interesting and the main reason I posted.

With regards Aimee Challenor, without getting into the details of their upbringing or speculating about it, there's little doubt Aimee had a hard time of it growing up and I can certainly understand why ty might want to hide what David Challenor did. Aimee is clearly troubled and I hope gets the support and help they need.

I run a blog and google the people I interview. I wouldn't be bothered if one of my interviewees had a relative who had done something terrible but Aimee is an adult who knowingly appointed someone who was under charges of raping and torturing a child. Aimee also campaigned to reduce safeguarding and was an integral part of a technological scheme to block critical voices online. Aimee was not a child when that happened.
If I ran an organisation's blog, I wouldn't touch someone who had done those things, if for no other reason that it would bring my organisation into disrepute.
If they wanted to talk about the difficulties of being trans and autistic, I don't doubt there would be plenty of other people they could have chosen.

Autism here will be another measure (like the trans identity) to but them in the "very vulnerable, harmless, most at risk of harm" category.

Sorry re

"So the NHS say its bollocks. Who should we trust. The lovely lady who employed a child rapist, or Aimee?"

I meant

I really don't understand why trans teens who clearly aren't ready are being given public roles of high status.

Give these kids a chance to grow up and pay their dues.

Is it any wonder they seem to have a different grasp on reality to the rest of us? How many teens get to be the head of anything, other than school or uni groups?

She is still seriously young. I don't know much about her or her family mind you, I only live across the sea, but sometimes it feels like another galaxy!

RudolphsJinglingBalls · 16/11/2018 09:43

My child accessed gender identity services and also has an official diagnosis of ASD. Not once was the autism raised as an issue or concern until I said that I knew it was part of the problem as he had always felt like he had lacked an identity. He always loved halloween as he could hide behind a mask and he was like a totally different person. But I had to fight like hell to get sertraline as they were offering hormones instead. I said NO. He is fine now, perfectly secure in his own body and is a happy gay man with a lovely partner.

Datun · 16/11/2018 09:57

My autistic qualities have lessened a bit. I still have bad days. I’m still very peculiar about certain things. I still don’t like sudden changes. But overall, now that I’ve been able to be myself, I find it a lot easier to manage.”

GIRES actually write in their blurb that transitioning can cure autism.

I don't know if it's just a ploy to explain how many autistic people might be transgender, or a recruitment technique.

This is a deeply troubled person. Who also does not have the maturity or ability to fulfil a public role. It verges on abuse to push them into the public spotlight. But is useful to someone and it gives attention to them which is obviously welcomed. So it keeps on happening.

MoltenLasagne · 16/11/2018 10:37

Yet another reason why transitioning is just Eugenics 2.0. It "cures" gay children by turning them into straight adults, and now according to GIRES it "cures" autistic people too.

No amount of future law suits will reverse mass sterilisation and I hope everyone pushing this will be held accountable.

QuietContraryMary · 16/11/2018 11:30

Looks like this thread has been gutted like a fish.

Shame that Aimee is able to push this nonsense about autistic children and no commentary on it is allowed.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/11/2018 11:32

Wtf

If a picture can go on social media how can mentioning said picture get me deleted

Seriously

HebeMumsnet · 16/11/2018 11:53

Morning, everyone. Just popping in to say that we've had to make quite a few deletions on this thread. While it's fine to discuss this interview Aimee Challenor has given, we don't think it's fair to call into question anyone's diagnosis of autism. We've also deleted some posts that have speculate on the case surrounding Aimee's father and Aimee's childhood.

We would like the thread to be able to remain so please do think carefully before posting. If we have to delete many more posts here we will probably end up having to take the whole thread down, which would be a shame.

Thanks for your help.
