Please don't tell me that the "I" stands for intersex...

Igneococcus · 09/11/2018 15:01

I'm pretty sure it does.

"Scotland will become the first country in the world to ensure its education system officially recognises the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community, ministers have announced. The Scottish government has adopted 33 recommendations drawn up by Time for Inclusive Education (Tie), a campaign group, to embed LGBTI rights in the national school curriculum."

That reminds me, I must book panto tickets. My kids are only young but they find a panto dame hilarious.

It's dreadful isn't it that what was once seen as constructive and important anti discriminatory education has been appropriated by small but powerful groups seeking to enforce their particular demands on society. If they just stuck to the importance of tolerance and having an rigorous anti bullying culture none of us would be in the slightest bit sceptical. Instead they actively undermine safeguarding, encourage the undermining of parental rights / responsibilities and 'teach' young children an unscientific and biologically inaccurate view of the world. And all funded by governments - in the same way as Jimmy Savile was funded and enabled by politicians and other influential people..

scotsheather · 09/11/2018 15:18

I'm all for tolerance of all 5 parts of the anacronym albeit they are 5 different things. Just not when it puts vulnerable groups competing for their rights.

scotsheather - that's so right. There's a massive problem with homophobic bullying in schools, and any initiative that improves this for the LGB part of the grouping is to be applauded. There's also a massive problem with intolerance towards children who don't fit society's norms about gender (old school social sciences meaning) - and they desperately need protecting from bullying.

But that shouldn't be at the expense of putting gender non-conforming students with penises into the girls' changing rooms, or into girls' races in sports day.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/11/2018 16:32

Has anyone been able to find anything about the specifics of this?

While it sounds all happy clappy and anti bullying which I approve of, I am worried that in reality it'll be "some girls have penises"
