I would love for MN to just make a statement along the lines of

"we're fucking Mumsnet, our advertisers aren't worried about what a couple furries and some 60 year old men who call themselves Bambi think. They're going to keep advertising because we own their demographic. Politicians are going to keep coming on and going down in flames talking about hobnobs because they need us to win elections"

Mumfun · 11/11/2018 16:05

@Jeanhatchet the GMC doctors register lists gender and not sex. This is highly concerning to me as if an adult human female wants to check for an adult human female doctor which can be extremely important, you cant!

Has anyone raised this with the GMC ?

Jeanhatchet · 11/11/2018 18:30

@Mumfun ..... did you notice that when you click the drop
Down it only gives the options "man" or "woman"?

Mumfun · 11/11/2018 18:38

@jeanhatchet No I hadnt clicked that. Thanks

But say you are a trans woman (I dont mean a transsexual) and a doctor-surely you would say your gender is woman. And you could have a penis. Or am I splitting hairs too much?

I do have to say it is one of the most important times for a woman to feel safe - to be able to choose to see a doctor without a penis.

I do have to say it is one of the most important times for a woman to feel safe - to be able to choose to see a doctor without a penis.

This is an important case to consider

December 2017
'NHS trust apologises to woman after ‘nurse with stubble and deep voice’ tried to take smear test'
The NHS has apologised to a woman who was left “embarrassed and distressed” after a nurse with stubble and a deep voice was going to carry out her cervical smear test at hospital.
(extract)
The woman requested a female NHS nurse to perform the intimate procedure but was dismayed when a staff member with “an obviously male appearance” greeted her. When the patient pointed out the mistake, the nurse replied: “My gender is not male. I’m a transsexual.”

“[It was] weird where somebody says to you: ‘My gender is not male’ and you think: ‘Well, what does that even mean? You are clearly a man’.”

The woman declined to go ahead with the examination – given to women aged 25 to 49 every three years and every five years for women aged 50 to 64 – and complained about her treatment. She stressed her complaint was not about the nurse’s appearance or gender status.

It is understood the nurse self-identified as a woman but had not been employed on that basis. He saw the patient only because of a clerical error. “[It was] weird where somebody says to you: ‘My gender is not male’ and you think: ‘Well, what does that even mean? You are clearly a man’, the woman told the Sunday Times. “[The nurse] had an obviously male appearance . . . close-cropped hair, a male facial appearance and voice, large number of tattoos and facial stubble.” The patient said it was “bad enough for a fortysomething mother”, but the effect of such an incident on her 17-year-old daughter would have been much worse" (continues)

James Caspian, a psychotherapist who specialises in working with transgender people, said self-certification would create many similar situations arising in the future. “Politicians have not thought through all the implications of allowing self-certification,” he said.

The patient has requested anonymity for herself and the clinic because of fears it or the nurse could be criticised.

The appointment for was on September 16 last year in an NHS clinic run by the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. It said: “We apologised to this patient for the recording error and because the staff member accepted they didn’t manage the situation appropriately; the patient needed to feel listened to. Trust policy is to consider seriously all requests for clinicians of a particular gender.”

Hayden seems to have set themselves up as a public figure and surely public criticism and appraisal comes with that role. From that angle, it's hard for me to see such a case succeeding. It'd be the end of sleb magazines.

breastfeedingclownfish · 12/11/2018 09:00

Look at who Hayden retweets. 'Susie' has interesting hobbies.

I hurt my eyed rolling them 🙄🙄🙄

Not just Haden. Helen from Mermaids also retweeted, which is a disturbing interesting choice considering how many parents and young people must follow her on Twitter.

Jeez live sex shows
Eek

FekkoThePenguin · 12/11/2018 09:56

In the Great Scheme of Things, calling a man a woman or a woman a man or puppy is not The End of the World.

As I told my stroppy teen only this weekend - there are people in the world right this minute being born into slavery, starving and freezing to death, living at war - and they didn't choose this life. Get over yourself.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 12/11/2018 10:02

I know of a trans person who works in a hospital and complains when they are misgendered by patients. These are often old and seriously ill people.

NotaRealLawyer · 12/11/2018 10:27

I was once approached by a group of excellent and caring nurses who were very upset indeed.
Despite their best efforts to care for the elderly on a ward, the patients were very rude, and calling them names, when the staff cared for them.
The nurses, who did not have English as a first language, were sick of being called " dog".
After an of investigation, I explained that: the older patients were calling them " duck", which was a local term of warm affection.

People make mistakes or don't understand. That is not malicious.

Needmoresleep · 12/11/2018 10:55

My mother has demenita can be very personal and rude to anyone and everyone.

Her sheltered housing finally asked me to provide her with an escort for lunch. The trigger was that she was pointing to a MtF carer and saying "look at that man in a dress". Nothing too offensive when attitudes of her generation were factored in. I agreed, though its costing about £250.00pw, partly because I feel for other residents and staff who get the sharp end of my mothers tongue, and because a care home would cost more and my mother would like it less but was irritated that action was taken when someone was trans was affected, rather than someone who was: short, "stupid", fat, black or had whatever other characteristic that my mother decided to observe. There seems to be some sort of specific fear about misgendering. I don't even think that the trans-carer complained, and suspect that given the option they might have preferred to have had the money.

WitchfinderGeneralHarrumph · 12/11/2018 11:35

@breastfeedingclownfish - looked a little further into "Susie" who has been much retweeted by "learned" friends and others. I'll leave the link here for Susie's Periscope where they ask their viewers for their age. Make your own mind up as to why a middle-aged man with bunches and eyeshadow would want / need that info.

breastfeedingclownfish · 12/11/2018 12:44

Ugh

So sick of this shit

Mumfun · 12/11/2018 12:48

OMG Rowantrees I didnt know it was actually happening.

I am misnamed all the time for a special reason. I couldnt care less. I just answer to anything if the person is polite.

Its another control and misogyny thing for these control freaks .

WitchfinderGeneralHarrumph · 12/11/2018 12:54

@Mumfun - that's just the tip of the iceberg, alas. Check out terf is a slur to go further down the rabbit hole.

"And, I'd love to see the data on the traffic for the boards - how many of us are there and how many visit mumsnet just/ mainly for it (me)"

There was a thread from MNHQ on Site Stuff, a few months ago, about which MN boards we most valued

Most replies said FWR
which of course lead to allegations by the few Transfans that FWR posters were giving an inaccurate impression of how popular our board is

MNHQ said that the boards with the most hits were:

No. 1 (of course) AIBU
No. 2 Chat
No. 3 FWR

They didn't give the number of hits, just the positions.
Amazing, that we get even more hits than Being a Parent !

No wonder the TRAs are so desperate to silence FWR
