It's just another example of narcissistic controlling behaviour

Yep, this. My first husband was a huge fan of the baseless legal threat. It's par for the course with controlling types. He was also a fan of using words far bigger than his actual vocabulary could cope with. And getting them wrong Grin

Threaten away, Aidey and Steph. Tell everyone exactly what you think of the women of Mumsnet. We all want people to hear what you think, we really, really do (don't you ever stop to wonder why that is?)

The comments about the Equality Act first introducing rights re gender reassignment are incorrect.

The Sex Discrimination (Gender Reassignment) Regulations 1999 first outlawed GR discrimination in employment and training. In 2008, the Sex Discrimination (Amendment of Legislation) Regulations extended existing regulation to outlaw discrimination when providing goods or services to transsexual people.

The Equality Act would not have abolished the GRA as they concerned different (but connected) law. Rather the GR Regs were abolished as was all other previous anti discrimination law.

The Equality Act could use some tweaking re strengthening same sex protections but overall it works well and much better written than much legislation

As a lawyer, few things cause me more misery and rage than people using the law in a malicious attempt to frighten people and get their own way. If there is any kind of crowdfunded wanted or needed I will contribute as much as I can afford. This is appalling.

noraclavicle · 09/11/2018 20:10

We are headed somewhere very dark, I think. I want to be able to say that I did as much as I could to stop it.

Damn straight!

ohello · 09/11/2018 20:32

I wonder where EarlyWalker is and what she thinks about this? She was on another thread for a few days, complaining that... we are too mean to the poor little innocent trans.

I think she was in this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3415474-Great-blog-about-being-a-trans-inclusive-feminist?pg=1

I would hope THIS thread is a wake-up call for people like her. Now we're not even supposed to discuss sexism. Really, it's not so much that we're "gender critical" here -- we're merely critiquing one more bog standard by-product of SEXISM and PATRIARCHY, but one which has the power to completely eliminate all sex-based discrimination laws!

ohello · 09/11/2018 21:49

focusses on TRAs who behave in ways that are damaging to women and not on those who conduct their activism in an appropriate manner

While there are a few individual trans I can count on one hand who are occasionally vocal about being opposed to the mainstream trans agenda, there is not even one trans organization which is conducting their activism in a way which is aligned with genuinely feminist principles.

Or am I wrong? Cos when there isn't even one, then the few individual trans who are occasionally vocal, isn't much to brag about. They in no way offset the harm perpetrated by all the trans orgs whose goals are detrimental to women's basic autonomy.

Can I rant? AUTONOMY. If trans had their way, women wouldn't even be allowed to open our mouths to discuss sexism, we wouldn't be allowed to gather together! As much as people here don't want to go down the american road of suing everybody, it seems to me like the best defense is a good offense. Find something fundamental to sue the bejesus out of them and let's go.

Ereshkigal · 09/11/2018 21:53

Or am I wrong?

No, I don't think you are.

Budgieinaberet · 09/11/2018 23:00

I converted a handmaiden, when I told them that Mermaids believe in bodily autonomy for under 5's
She realised what it meant.
Funnily enough she is now keeping quiet, reading, and thinking.

Gender critical women are on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Mumsnet and more, discussing gender and the misogyny of trans activism etc and we are well within our rights to do so. What Stephanie has done is characterise disagreement & the refusal to bow to compelled speech as harassment. All this is going to do is highlight how illiberal and intolerant trans activism is, and for those who look a bit more closely, they will see the toxis masculinity behind it of the need to control women and women's speech. But seriously, how deluded would you have to be to think that a UK court is going to prevent feminist women from discussing gender and sex, and from giving expression to our refusal to submit to male authority and to male identities, on social media.

Just want to say to @MNHQ that whatever hits you are taking to keep this forum open, I hope you all know how much the women here appreciate your steadfastness in refusing to bow to the horrific pressure you are being put under to prevent women from having a space for their voice.

We can crowd fund to defend Mumsnet against this crap. Should that be necessary. The law needs testing - the trans bullies know it and so do we. There's no running away.

Me too. Also pretty certain that due to the number of women who are passionate about this, funding would be a piece of piss.

I'll fund anything in service of telling walking talking embodiments of the Duluth wheel to fuck right off.
