WTF Teen Vogue?

Badstyley · 08/11/2018 23:52

This is anal 101, for teens, beginners, and all inquisitive folk.

Fucking hell, anal sex for teens? When I was a teen bum sex was something only gay men did. I’m in a state of perpetual shock at just how porn soaked our society is and how horrible it must be for girls and young women.

I remember looking into the magazine at the time. It was originally aimed at girls around 12-14 who were into fashion and makeup. It featured in the best magazines for young teen type polls.

By the time the article was published, the owners/editorial staff were aiming for readers around 18-25. Which made the sex content more relevant, althoug very male focused, but the title of the magazine wildly inappropriate.

I don't know why the owners thought it was fine to change the content of the magazine and not the title. Why would women want or need to get sex advice from a 'teen' magazine?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 09/11/2018 17:09

Not RTFT

Glanced at article

Clearly aimed at girls taking it up the arse >> all talk about PIV at the start, a quick bit for chaps which refers to "receiving" (v heteronormative language and also shades of misogyny/homophobia)

Then goes on much longer about how for "non prostate havers" apprently it's "delightful"!!!!!!!!!!

KLAXON: NO MENTION OF THE CLITORIS

And even though this is a rehash of their article that was similar and got lambasted a year or so ago

STILL NO MENTION OF CLITORIS, IT'S NOT ON THE DIAGRAM WTF IN AN ARTICLE ABOUT SEX CLEARLY AIMED AT GIRLS

Also

SECOND KLAXON THAT ARTICLE HAD TO BE UPDTED TO SAY SAFE SEX WAS IMPORTANT WTAF X10000 IN AN ARTICLE FOR TEENS AIMED AT ENCOURGAING THEM TO TAKE A DICK UP THEIR ARSE

NothingOnTellyAgain · 09/11/2018 17:13

They've recycled some of the original article but this reads to me as newish generally

ie they've gone and done it again

Avegemitesandwich · 09/11/2018 17:17

Yep, no clitoris on a diagram about sex aimed at teenage girls.

Remember girls, your bum is just another orifice for boys to stick their dick into, your pleasure is not important.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 09/11/2018 17:20

I think I'm right in saying that teen Vogue isn't in print anymore and just online?

I'm fascinated to find out why they changed the content, moved from print to online, but kept the 'teen' name.

I wonder if the majority of hits they get are from women and girls?

Datun · 09/11/2018 17:24

Exactly NothingOnTellyAgain.

Outrage is old-fashioned. Fuck it, I'm outraged.

Datun · 09/11/2018 17:25

Can I ask ? Is it possible to get an orgasm from anal - without the clitoris being involved?

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 09/11/2018 17:33

It's all of a piece, isn't it. I am in my late 50s. When I was growing up I was naive enough to think that most of the battles for women's rights had been won. As I got older I began to be more and more aware of the casual, unthinking sexism that surrounds us, especially as we age and/or become mothers. I suspect some young women really enjoy getting male attention and don't see it as a negative thing until it dries up as they move into their 30s and 40s. Others may not enjoy it but it's better than being ignored and they genuinely don't grasp that it's possible for women to plough their own furrow without male approval at all. In all of this women's pleasure and their own priorities are easily batted to one side as of little importance, because if they conflict with men's pleasure and priorities it's obvious who wins out. This is so routine that I honestly think many people can't even see it happening. It doesn't occur to them that it doesn't have to be this way.

powershowerforanhour · 09/11/2018 17:36

If stimulation of the receptors up my arse was so delightful I'd orgasm every time I did a shit.

No mention of risk of rectal tearing in that article I see. Go slow, use lube etc....but they shy away from adding "to minimise the risk that you suffer a full thickness rectal tear, develop peritonitis and die".

Agreed, if 75% of girls don't want anal, then 75% of the articles should be "how to say no to your boyfriend" rather than "you'll probably love it really".

Datun · 09/11/2018 17:41

If stimulation of the receptors up my arse was so delightful I'd orgasm every time I did a shit.

I know. They are talking about nerve endings. Well I have a shed load of nerve endings up my nose and in my fingertips.

Avegemitesandwich · 09/11/2018 17:52

Yes good point. This article definitely smacks of 'try it.... You might just like it' yuk. I wonder how many articles Teen Vogue has done on how to set clear boundaries about what you don't like when it comes to sex.

Good point about the readership of 'Teen' Vogue as well

FermatsTheorem · 09/11/2018 18:04

Yes where are the articles on "Time to stop vanilla-shaming - if you don't fancy the idea, you don't have to do it", and "Ten things a decent lover can do in bed to bring you pleasure - but only if they ask first"?

Datun · 09/11/2018 18:05

I wonder how many articles Teen Vogue has done on how to set clear boundaries about what you don't like when it comes to sex

I'm guessing zero.

I'm wondering whether that has anything to do with the two adults men who are the editors. Apparently.

LizzieSiddal · 09/11/2018 18:08

"KLAXON: NO MENTION OF THE CLITORIS"

They do not care about women. We don't even cross their minds.

Datun · 09/11/2018 18:08

This was from the original thread. Excellent.

Beautifully put. Laughing at:

See also our 'brother mag' Vogue TB (Teen Boy) for articles on "Pleasing her sexually', 'Porn isn't real you know' and 'it's not all about you'."

Missymoo100 · 09/11/2018 18:12

Here’s another teen vogue article

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.teenvogue.com/story/what-is-polyamory/amp

I think it’s a very sad situation.
It comes with the dismantling of western Christian values, under the guise of “progress”. Unfortunately I feel all this is leading to harm and exploitation.
There are no sexual ethics anymore.

anitagreen · 09/11/2018 18:54

I find all the backlash about anal weird I like it I can orgasm from it without clit stimulation.
Reading this in a teen mag wouldn't bother me or horrify me.

Datun · 09/11/2018 18:59

anitagreen

Presumably you're an adult, and not a 13-year-old girl. For whom sex is illegal.

anitagreen · 09/11/2018 19:01

Yes I'm 25 now but we was doing it at 14. Some girls didn't like it as it wasn't their thing, some other girls loved it, each to their own nothing wrong with it all. Preferably after 16 though and that's everything sex wise.

wheezy2 · 09/11/2018 19:07

anitagreen I think the article should mention incontinence and what it involves so women can make an informed choice before they risk severe tears or infection.

I am 47 and I can't always control my bowels - shit goes everywhere - occasions when I don't make it to the toilet are really shit - pardon the pun.

I have whole strategies in place to avoid it hopefully happening when I am or of the house.

My anal sphincter is torn.

Did teen vogue speak to anyone who has a torn anal sphincter? That would be a big no.

Did they mention they could become incontinent from anal sex?

anitagreen · 09/11/2018 19:12

Never heard of that ever if it can happen then it should be mentioned but not one person I know has ever told me off that when discussing sex. And bloody hell ive heard untolds of stories from working through Anne summers years ago

GrinitchSpinach · 09/11/2018 19:12

Datun lol you are a goddess! Informed and razor-sharp on all the relevant issues, and then this:

I know. They are talking about nerve endings. Well I have a shed load of nerve endings up my nose and in my fingertips.

.

whiskeysourpuss · 09/11/2018 19:29

Who were you discussing sex with though? Unlikely to have been sensible grown ups - & if my (albeit limited) experience with Ann Summers parties etc is anything to go by the stories of sexual exploits will be greatly exaggerated & edited for effect.

As a parent of teen girls I'm absolutely disgusted that shite like this is being peddled as normal... & I'm far from vanilla when it comes to sex.

Datun · 09/11/2018 20:11

And this is the problem anitagreen.

One person comes along and says well I've been having butt sex illegally, since I was 14, so therefore it's fine.

You being fine, doesn't make it fine.

You saying it's nothing to worry about is part of the problem. 13-year-old girls should not be getting encouraged to have anal sex, when they mostly don't want it. They should be encouraged to have the tools to maintain their boundaries.

Stop it.

SophoclesTheFox · 09/11/2018 20:29

Exactly, datun. I haven't ever seen an anal sex thread on here that doesn't feature someone popping on to call women who don't like it vanilla pearl clutchers. Even when the topic is "is an article that doesn't even feature a clitoris really how we want to introduce young women to sex"?

Hey, here's a question for the "I love anal sex brigade". If it's all so great and pleasurable, given that he has a prostate, and will 100% enjoy it at least as much as you do - do you do him up the arse?

No? If not, why not?
