The History Society’s has invited her to talk on the topic of “Powerful British Women in History and Society”

The Student Union LGBTQ+ and the Womens Campaign (Sad) are calling for her to be no platformed for wrong-think and wrong-speak. She does not believe that transwomen are ‘real women'...and has "uncritically encouraged her readers to question whether trans women and girls should be allowed to use single-sex spaces such as changing rooms and bathrooms, whether trans girls should be allowed to join Girlguiding."

As we know from the Women Ask Questions survey 60% of the UK public agree with Murray, another 25% don't know and only 15% are on board the TWAW bus.

This presumably extends to most lecturers and guest speakers at Oxford . But they keep going after Jenni Murray Hmm.

Transmen have 'privilege' as they are men. They therefore must prioritise the experience of 'transwomen, transfemme' since to not do would be transmisogyny.

In NUS LGBTQ+ societies etc there has been considerable focus on this dynamic with female transmen been excluded from services and spaces etc by male transwomen/femme students.

The contrast between this and my NB colleague's criticism today of women's events for leaving out "non-binary and transmasculine" people is pretty revealing, to be honest.

It's ALWAYS women's (especially older women's) fault for not putting everyone else first. Hmm

I agree with Bert - maybe the hot choc comment wasn’t intended to be patronising but it bloody sounds it.

YY. At the NUS conference this year several of the MTF trans and "transfeminine" people wanted to exclude female people.

Let's hope misogyny catches up with you and your mates eventually, eh, Christian?

In fairness Jenni Murray scares the bejesus out of me.

Digby Jones Rowan Grin What larks Pip!

Well that's hundreds and hundreds of retweets and over a thousand likes already. He is a REAL lawyer by education, training and practice, back in the day.
I wonder if Stephanie R. Hayden, "lawyer", will be having a word with him?
I think not.

R0wantrees · 08/11/2018 22:25

Indeed... I wonder if A. Harrop & S. Hayden are aware of the tweet, they would I'm sure identify the 'transphobia' there and be keen to stamp out that sort of thing.

Jones worked for 20 years at Edge & Ellison, a firm of lawyers based in Birmingham, culminating in serving as Senior Partner from 1995-1998

BirdseyeFrozen · 08/11/2018 22:39

I have a strong feeling that Digby Jones would enjoy an intervention from Hayden and Harrop.

R0wantrees · 08/11/2018 22:54

As I think would we!

FekkoThePenguin · 09/11/2018 07:29

I met him a couple of times through work. He comes across and someone who takes no nonsense.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2018 09:01

There's a sensible letter in The Times this morning about this issue, can't link to the letters page from their app though.

Radio 4, Any Questions discussed no platforming at Oxford University but did not mention Jenni Murray or feminists.
It will be interesting to hear if this point is made by callers etc.
Any Answers now on.
