www.lgbtyouth.org.uk/news/2018/november/a-response-to-claims-made-by-the-christian-institute/

Have folk seen this?

Seems a bit slimy.

Like... Scotgov support us with funding ergo they haven't withdrawn support for our insistance that safeguarding flies out the window... or something?

'Although the term ‘gender reassignment’ is used in the legislation, a young person does not need to have undergone any changes or have any medical treatment or assessment for the Act to apply. If a young person discusses with someone that they are exploring their gender identity or considering using different pronouns in the future, they are legally protected.' for example

the content is based on the lived experiences of transgender young people in school

It's a shame they didn't take into account the lived experiences of anyone else.

I think removing an endorsement and make clear something was never endorsed in the first place are pretty much the same, so no error there.

That teachers ‘should ask the young person if they can share information and with whom’. This is usual practice when working with young people

No it isn't.

I can't bothered going through all of it, but I hope it is publicised widely as it seems to be rather an own goal.

Place mark, coming back to this in a bit

LemonJello · 04/11/2018 14:03

Very interesting. They appear to be down playing and minimising some of the more objectionable bits of the guidance. Eg they say in this statement

If another learner feels uncomfortable sharing facilities with a trans young person, they can be provided with a private facility such as an accessible toilet, or be allowed to get changed at another time.

The guidance actually states that if another learner feels uncomfortable they can be allowed to get changed after the transgender young person is done. Not just at another time. After the girl with the penis, whose needs are the most important here.

There are other bits like that too. Almost as if they recognise they were a bit too obvious at how little consideration and regard they have given to the rights of other children, and now need to walk that back a bit.

Verify2Terrify · 04/11/2018 14:09

Has anyone got a link to the CI press release that's prompted this? They've referenced it in this statement but when I click it, there's nothing coming up. Just want to see what's being said on both sides.

breastfeedingclownfish · 04/11/2018 14:34

LGBT Youth Scotland endorses cross dressers to be included in the definition of transgender.

This is the organisation that goes into primary schools with their 'Schools Charter'.

If that's not a massive red flag I don't know what is.

They are a lobbying group, first and foremost. They have a political agenda.

Lemon
Their submission to the Women and Equalities committee

"We recommend expanding the protected characteristic of gender reassignment to include gender identity and expression so that non-binary identities and cross-dressers are clearly covered."

@MNHQ why have lemon's posts been deleted? I don't recall anything in them that would warrant deletion. Please explain.

Verify2Terrify · 04/11/2018 15:23

What on earth is going on @MNHQ - why are you deleting Lemon's posts? What is the issue with what she's said?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/11/2018 15:24

Obviously need to start screenshot ring threads Hmm

Verify2Terrify · 04/11/2018 15:27

The posts were disappearing as I was reading, it's ridiculous.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 04/11/2018 15:31

I think it's weird that campaigning organisations can link cross-dressing to being trans but we can't reflect those statements on here without deletion.

I was actually asking a genuine question because I didn’t understand! I wasn’t even trying to offend!!!!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/11/2018 15:38

So was saying that cross-dressing is a sexual fetish what caused the deletion, because:

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/11/2018 15:39

Crikey, Lemon. Did you use a common, possibly banned word in all of them? Just wondering if there's an automatic scan and zub!

You need to know, if the 3 strikes rule is to ever be imposed!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/11/2018 15:40

In fact, I was reading your first one as it went... you only asked a question, asking for a link... @MNHQ... what is going on? Have you been invaded?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/11/2018 15:47

One thing I find interesting is that according to their website

www.lgbtyouth.org.uk/groups-and-support/

They run youth support groups, and online chat support, yet they do not have a safeguarding policy available on their website.

Verify2Terrify · 04/11/2018 15:56

Itsallgoingtobefine - that's pretty shocking, particularly considering their history with failures on safeguarding & child abusers - see previous CEO "Rennie, a trained teacher who was found guilty of 14 charges, was at the heart of the conspiracy to abuse youngsters, and likened him to a spider weaving an electronic web to bring about his crime." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-15790605

If any organisation should have clear & prominent safeguarding policies easily accessible on their website, it should be LGBT Youth Scotland.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/11/2018 16:00

Shock I had completely missed that!

In which case yes, it's beyond belief that they aren't trumpeting their safeguarding policies and procedures.

As an aside (awaits deletion) I think it's a recognised fact that paedophiles will try and infiltrate legitimate concerns who work with children.

That is one reason it is so worrying that TRAs are pushing so hard to dismantle safeguards.

breastfeedingclownfish · 04/11/2018 18:12

Not clear re the deletions. Are we now not allowed to say that cross dressing a fetish?

Because I have long suspected that this is one of the end games in this issue.

Except that cross dressing is linked with numerous other fetish and deviant behaviours in sex offenders. I can't find the research link, but I think R0wan or Lang posted it - can you repost? If not, will search for it later, think I have misfiled it

placemats · 04/11/2018 18:22

Where is the safeguarding for Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals in all of this?

Answer: There is none. Heaven forbid if you come out as LGB at the age of 8.

Just as there is none for heterosexual women either.

placemats · 04/11/2018 18:24

And to add.

How the fuck do you know what your sexual orientation will be when in Primary school?
