www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-bristol-46074037/the-couple-still-together-after-gender-reassignment

Takes the genuine suffering of one individual . Adds the Stonewall statistics (unacceptable self selection of participants in survey) to give a shocking impression of prevalence of suicide among trans people. Have complained today to BBC .

I just saw this. Poor Lynne, she looks so unhappy. She's effectively been emotionally blackmailed into staying.

KatVonGulag · 03/11/2018 13:36

Oh it's sad.

Ereshkigal · 03/11/2018 20:22

Wow. It's awful. And that use of the stat is unforgivable. There's a huge drop off between attempted and completed suicide even if we took the stat at face value. So dishonest and manipulative.

arranfan · 03/11/2018 20:54

We need a women's version of Full Fact or other fact-checking organisation that is going to pursue the use of these false statistics.

It has to be done - Full Fact has succeeded in making it impractical to repeat some zombie statistics and facts. It has to be done for these and similar false statistics and facts that affect the reporting and debate of issues that affect women.

"Between 40 and 45% of trans people either do or try to commit suicide." No.

I felt for Lynne. "I'm one of the lucky ones". No, good luck would have been if Steven hadn't decided to use you as camouflage Sad and had left you to find someone else and have a happy life.

Ereshkigal · 03/11/2018 21:12

It looked like how someone would say they were "lucky" when they almost died from something but it had life altering consequences.

Mumfun · 03/11/2018 21:14

@arranfan yes absolutely. sick of the lies!

That is incredibly sad. I feel so sorry for Lynne, she looks so sad. When she said she's one of the lucky ones, it's as if she's been repeatedly told that and daren't disagree.

I hope Lynne finds her way to the Trans widow threads here and realises she's not alone.
