I really must look for a better dictionary along with my misplaced sense of humour.

Well, you said it 🤷‍♀️

misplaced sense of humour

Not just misplaced 😁

HannahnotAgnes · 03/11/2018 08:06

Completely agree ohello.

I'm happy to refer to people by whatever names & pronouns they choose & fully believe in live & let live. However penises should be kept out of female spaces & I can't understand the rationale for anyone thinking differently. Call yourself whatever you like but if you have a penis, then you shouldn't be able to access women only protected spaces.

starzig · 03/11/2018 08:24

What a lovely bit of nastiness and mockery to start the day. The bitter and twisted are out to play.

Juells · 03/11/2018 08:31

The bitter and twisted are out to play.

No, we're laughing at the size choices offered when coupled with the message on the shirt. Do you not get that?

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 03/11/2018 08:33

Grin🤣🤣🤣

merrymouse · 03/11/2018 08:35

There is a serious side to this.

Why does anybody need to be classified by any gender at all?

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 03/11/2018 08:37

All you nasty women, do play nice now

Nah, this particular example deserves mockery. It’s not posters taking the piss out of trans people ffs, but out of whoever is selling this shirt with only two choices of fit (which happen to be the correct choices if you think there are only 2 sexes Wink) Irony, alive and well

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 03/11/2018 08:38

Why does anybody need to be classified by any gender at all?

They don’t. Sex, on the other hand, an entirely different story. I don’t have a gender. I am of the female sex. The distinction is important on many levels

Deliriumoftheendless · 03/11/2018 08:51

If there was any consideration for any negative consequences ie risk assessment with the trans argument I might think it was actually about better treatment for trans people rather than a handy excuse for men to excuse atrocious behaviour towards women.

Instead of saying “this does happen, how do we minimise risk to women whilst also keeping trans people safe and accepting them as they are?” There has been a flat out denial of any problems and faux horror that a bunch of people who have aligned themselves with predators may be ok with.. er predatory behaviour.

No not all trans people are a threat to women but way, way, waaay too many are excusing those who are or pretending they don’t exist.

I’d have more respect if the activists distanced themselves from the abusers, but they won’t.

Not even slightly suspicious is it?

Feminist4 · 03/11/2018 09:06

motherofjiggly, they will argue against you just for the sake of it. Their demonising of trans people is horrid and is exactly as you say, bigotry hiding behind a ridiculous argument. Many trans people feel they are the object of a witch hunt. What is happening to the world? It makes me sad, when a group I thought I belonged to, who were enlightened, become the bigots and bullies. I’m ashamed that women do this in the name of women. No doubt I’ll get a load of replies picking apart what I’ve said with pseudo intellectual arguments, so I think I’ll switch off

Horsewithnomane · 03/11/2018 09:09

I had to check if I'm honest and the definition online was this:

bigot definition: 1. a person who has strong, UNREASONABLE beliefs and who does not like other people who have different beliefs or a different way of life..(my emphasis).

I don't think it's "unreasonable" to hold the view that sex and gender have two different meanings. And I don't think it is bigoted to point out how some people get in a bit of a muddle over this. So many people conflate the two. Don't they?

PipGoesPop · 03/11/2018 09:14

'demonising' don't be ridiculous.

Start thinking for yourself. Start thinking come to that.

Chosennonetosurvivethenight · 03/11/2018 09:15

We're not bigots and bullies. We live in a democracy but are being told #nodebate.

The irony of the t shirt is hilarious 🤣

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 03/11/2018 09:17

god, are we still in missing the joke land?

heavens

FissionChips · 03/11/2018 09:20

Lmfao!

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 03/11/2018 09:27

The two photos would actually not be so contradictory if trans activists themselves didn’t conflate sex with gender.

Feminists have always said that gender is fluid to the point it’s a social construct while biological sex and people’s perceptions of it is what oppresses women.

But transactivists want to eradicate the physical distinction made between the sexes and allow male bodied people into women’s sports, prisons, physical safe spaces, etc. The places segregated by sex not gender.

Which is why the M/F size question is so funny.

HTH

ToeToToe · 03/11/2018 09:37

ohello's most excellent post sums it up for me.

I do find it amusing when people steam onto a thread calling the women here bigots - completely ignoring the posts like the above, that explain women's concerns so clearly.

I wonder why these posters are so quick to believe that so many left wing feminist activists, some of whom have fought for equality for decades, have turned into phobic bigots overnight - and yet are absolutely willing to believe that absolutely any man absolutely is a woman just because he says he feels like one.

motherofjiggly · 03/11/2018 09:58

@ToeToToe I'm well aware of what the concerns are about the GRA, my point is that this thread is simply taking a cheap shot at something trans-related, which rather undermines the claim that safeguarding concerns are the only thing in play here.

It isn't the irony of the t-shirt sizing options that I'm failing to find amusing, it's the fact that any and all opportunities to mock and discredit trans people are so gleefully seized on.

It's disingenuous to say that it's all about protecting women, a lot of people are just enjoying jumping on this particular bandwagon and having the opportunity to bully and mock others while feeling righteous.

Juells · 03/11/2018 10:02

No doubt I’ll get a load of replies picking apart what I’ve said with pseudo intellectual arguments, so I think I’ll switch off

Shits and runs 😂

Chosennonetosurvivethenight · 03/11/2018 10:12

Feminist4 arrives on thread, virtue signals and leaves. Standard. The irony of the sizing is funny regardless.

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 03/11/2018 10:12

There are more than two genders. Fine.
Fits come in man or woman- these are sex based categories normal for clothing sizes. Fine.
It’s really only funny if you’re trying to laugh at some kind of perceived trans faux pas.
So, as a GC feminist, I’m reporting for transphobia.

merrymouse · 03/11/2018 10:39

I don't think it's funny. I think it's confused and endorsing segregation by gender.

LonginesPrime · 03/11/2018 10:59

Why does anybody need to be classified by any gender at all?

Isn't this the crux of the argument between transactivists and radfems? That radfems reject the concept of gender and transactivists rely on it?

I agree with NutterButter that it makes perfect sense that the t-shirt comes in sizes based on sex characteristics- it wouldn't come in sizes such as non-binary or gender-questioning as gender doesn't dictate clothes sizes.
