Small act of rebellion

I'm a public sector employee so no chance of getting them to think critically unfortunately. However I have begun a fun game. I have to fill out referrals on a fairly regular basis and they're often on a bog standard word docs which are obviously editable. On each and every one I've been changing the box for gender to say sex instead. Not had it raised by anyone yet (these are internal and external referrals) and no one may ever notice but it gives me great satisfaction. Anyone else engaging in small acts of rebellion?

@ErrolTheDragon thank you! That's who DD1 was going to do her science homework on. I couldn't remember the name.

Stolen from here - things we don't know sex of (animals, drivers, characters in story / TV) are female here. Ie 'look at the bird pulling up that lovely worm, she's going to enjoy that for her tea!'

It's actually quite hard and also frightening how ingrained the male by default setting is.

Glad to hear it, perverse!Smile

I've been putting Adult Human Female stickers in loos and one on a mirror in new mixed sex loos near me. Few other places too. Always on the lookout to put one somewhere.....Also crossed out gender and put sex instead. All very satisfying.

Yes indeed. Interestingly, my daughter (5yo) is actually very good at helping me correct for it. She has the opposite bias in that she assumes every animal (etc) is a girl like she is... Hopefully we can keep that going as long as possible.

I correct gender/sex on forms, and if I can't I tick "other". If there's a box I explain that I reject gender and that I am an adult human female.

I also changed my FB settings to male. Amuses me greatly, if sex is meaningless then it doesn't matter that I am recorded as a male. (wouldn't do that on the census, but, I think SoMe is fair game)

I added a label to a display in a library saying woman=adult human female. Right next to a suffragette display.

PerverseConverse all my kids are in Catholic schools, but in the US. The schools are very big on critical thinking and free speech. I am just relieved to know they will not be presented any of the gender ideology stuff as part of the curriculum at any time, although if it came up somehow I know it would be critiqued and the kids would be encouraged to critique it. Both my teen dds belong to the feminist group at their high school and my eldest dd has been one of the leaders for a couple of years.

I have stopped saying ‘wait for the green man’ to cross the road. I now say ‘ ‘green for people to cross’.
