Just that really. I engaged with a pro self ID feminist group, stated my position under my real name and nothing bad happened. A couple of names, some capital letters -no biggie. Would recommend as I feel healthier now!

That must feel good.

I've been as brave as I dare. It's so much easier I find in real life.

Manderleyagain · 30/10/2018 22:14

Was it a Facebook group?

Waterparc · 30/10/2018 22:36

Would rather not say .... please don’t out us.

We sort of raised our eyebrows at each other IYSWIM. I would say that each of us were genuinely astonished that the other had such extreme views.

It really helped to have been here because you realise that you have to be direct and unapologetic about disagreeing in order to be respectful.

I have engaged with family & a few work colleagues, all GC reactions. I have been posting a lot of articles on fb for months. No reaction at first but lately getting more likes. I have also chatted with a local trans woman I vaguely know from my teens. She commented on a Karen White article. They are also not convinced on self ID.

I did see that a colleague had posted the attached meme on a work fb group with a comment saying its informative about trans rights and dignity for trans patients. I have wondered if it was prompted by my sharing of news articles Hmm

I don't understand the meme. Is this yet more false equivalence? It's very tiring.

Waterparc · 30/10/2018 23:00

Butterflies are caterpillars though.....

Oh no I'm not in any online feminist groups apart from this board. I was just trying to picture what it was like. And I don't know what iyswimeans!
Womaninboots yes I think it's a rather shaky metaphore for misgendering/deadnaming

boatyardblues · 30/10/2018 23:11

That butterfy meme has reminded me of a joke. It’s not the usual structure, but here goes.

Two caterpillars on a branch. A butterfly flutters by. First caterpillar turns to the second caterpillar and says: “You’d never catch me up in one of those things. I’m scared of heights.”

(Joke is the looming inevitability of metamorphosis. I’m crap at telling jokes, so I felt duty bound to explain.)

Spasm0dic · 30/10/2018 23:22

If you see I mean.

I feel its a really freaky world where I feel naughty for wanting to wear a dictionary definition on my tee-shirt, but hopefully like you it will be fine. Well done, by the way!

TrashyTerf · 30/10/2018 23:25

The GC argument is, and always has been, winning in terms of numbers. No reasonable person thinks that it's possible to change sex.

ChattyLion · 31/10/2018 01:33

Or turn into a butterfly when that’s not a part of your natural life cycle...

DeRigueurMortis · 31/10/2018 01:51

I'm out as GC in RL and twitter.

Nothing "bad" has happened to me.

Equally I'm in a situation wrt employment it's not a factor (I own a substantial shareholding in the company) - I don't face being sacked.

Wrt social circles - yes I've encountered some "negative" feedback. Frankly I don't care and am in a position not to do so.

There's the issue - for some of us we hold a "safe harbour" position.

That's not true for a lot of other women which is a disgrace. They can't speak freely in real life.

Spasm0dic · 31/10/2018 05:43

Those of us who can speak out do it for those who can’t. On my part, I’ve always been so bloody wierd (independently minded) that people are used to me saying things and people also know why I am saying what I say.

Frankenterfer · 31/10/2018 05:49

It's just suddenly dawned on me that this is why the tv programme is called Butterfly Confused

I'm glad you've had a reasonably positive experience.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 31/10/2018 05:51

I'm publicly GC on FB & Twitter, cautiously so at work, leafleted for Fair Play for Women & go about in my Adult Human Female T-shirt & more recently, hoodie. (I recommend the hoodies) - soft & warm & snuggly!)

I haven't had any major problems, but I'm not in academia or any of the work areas where it does seem to be an issue.
