A male body which commits a crime should go to a male prison. If ‘gender identity’ is really something separate from their body it can sneak out through the wall for all I care. Being unsubstantial it can’t get up to much mischief.

This could be the case, entirely or partially. The problem is it is impossible to tell (for anybody I think?)

There seems to be a widespread misapprehension about whether crimes committed before transition and a GRC/ new birth certificate are untraceable. They are easily traced. At a deeper level of admin, a transsexual person's former life is on record. As is shown when one applies for security clearance for a new job. The past is never erased, and nor should it be.

But crimes committed after a GRC will still be recorded as female crimes..

Crimes have been recorded by the Met police by SELF DEFINED GENDER since 2009.

I do wonder though whether self-ID might actually blow the lid off the whole thing, as you have to wonder for any man with a long sentence what the advantages of NOT id'ing as a woman is, if all you have to do is sign a form? Surely, they'll be doing it in record numbers? Access to women prisoners and the possibility of a sex life would presumably be more than enough incentive for many, the possibility to be housed in with women in better conditions another huge draw. If large numbers all did try and do it it would expose this ridiculous nonsense. What would the prison service do if a huge number of men start to self-ID - they can't possibly house them all in the womens estate?.

barracker that's what I thought too.... but how can the Met do this if Herts are right about this?

Last night, Hertfordshire Police said: ‘As per national guidelines, a trans person’s Police National Computer file will have them recorded as the gender they were at birth unless they are in possession of a gender reassignment certificate

And if Herts are right, how on earth will they know what they were recorded at birth if they are not allowed to ask? If they've seen a driving licence in new name don't they just take that?

I DO NOT BELIEVE that the six "women" who raped last year ie at least five of them male, all had GRCs... that sounds very disproportionate given its around 3,000 born-male who have a GRC (and less than 5,000 in total)

SO WHAT DO WE DO????

This is very important - and if Herts is right, at least there are national guidelines which do say the right thing - and we should be seeking for them to be implemented

Tbh I find this so fucking upsetting I can barely think about it. That men's crimes are being assigned to women when we form such a tiny tiny part of the prison population. It's so bloody wrong.

The Freedom of Information request that revealed the Met Police have been recording by self-defined gender since 2009.

There is a petition floating about on this, I'll try to find it.

There was the recent case where a paedophile had managed to get a GRC while incarcerated. GRCs are no guarantee that you're not a sicko.

They'll be identifying as 'not a criminal' and 'not convicted' next. What will they do then?! Sure, there was a trial and I was found to be guilty but I feel innocent in my head so......

Makes as much sense as identifying as a woman.

Just because you are Assigned Guiity at Trail doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have the right to amend your records.

Actually given lots of trials rely on conflicting evidence and testimony, 'assigned' makes more sense in this context than in the context of observing sexual dimorphism.
