“... but some women”

I was trying to think of an analogy to the argument that transwomen should be placed in women’s prison as “some women are also sexual abusers too.”

That is basically saying “We can’t keep women wholly safe in prison, therefore we are justified in removing steps that are known to keep them safe, such as segregation by sex”.

The analogy I came up with was that of a tall building like a skyscraper with railings on the roof to stop people falling off. The current railings don’t work perfectly. Very occasionally, due to appalling weather conditions, someone will fall off. Therefore we might as well remove the railings altogether.

I wasn’t wholly satisfied with this analogy. Can anyone think of something better, or a way to improve it?

It was that thread which reminded me about this thought, Charlie. I’m aware of many methods of arguing this, and also that it’s a straw man. Only sometimes a punchy analogy can stop straw-manning dead. I mostly operate on Twitter, so anything not involving lengthy explanations is good. I also want a quick answer to “but what should we do then with all the poor souls who feel like...”

And thanks grasspigeons. I hadn’t thought of that. It doesn’t have to just be women either. If you can self-ID into women’s prison, why not into a young offenders facility? What’s the difference?

Some children commit murder.

Should we view all children as dangerous?

Of course. Especially the ones with sharpened teeth.

I don’t think you need an anology, women have a fair chance of defending themselves against a female predator, we have next to no chance of defending ourselves against a male predator, or a male bodies predator who has somewhat decreased muscle mass by taking hormones, but still retains a male sceleton and superior strength over women.
