November 25th International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Just wondering what might be going on on this day for women. It seems like it would be a good year to really focus on this important day.

It is a UN sponsored day, the UN still hold to female sex-based Women's Rights. The UN do acknowledge that some people have feelings of gender identity, but these are not ratified in any conventions so do not displace sex as the basis of women's rights. Women all over the globe need this day.

CEDAW and Vienna 1993 are very powerful.

Perhaps Karen Ingala Smith's work honouring and remembering murdered women would have a place here. It is work that needs supporting and maybe now with the new groups we have we can capitalise on the networks and bonds that women are building in the face of self ID.

I'm sadly not able to be of much practical help for health reasons, but I thought maybe a thread would be a start.

Of course, the threat to the day is genderist and identity politics and MRAs etc, and people declaring that biology is irrelevant, but maybe we can survive that?

I think it would be great to do something. May as well be this day, as choosing another is a complicated energy spend we can do without.

Perhaps something as simple as listing all the murdered women’s names (compiled by Karen) on here, along with Jean Hatchet’s fund raising actions, and sharing both across all our social media accounts on the day, would be a simple, easy to organise, easy to participate, place to start?

Speakers corner event for Maria, Venice, Posie, Caroline Farrow, Julie Bundle, Janice Turner and others who experienced physical and emotional violence?

I would also invite Caroline Flint MP and Victoria Atkins MP.

I hope so betty. I'm personally having hard time at the moment with various things coming back to haunt me so to speak. I know I am not alone in being worn down by the hostility we face.

It would be nice to have a day that is profoundly peaceful, without any having to argue for my/ our basic recognition as a woman. Ha! Some hope!

Wouldn't it be something to borrow Posie's projector idea and have those names scolled somewhere really public.

There are some Dead Women Walking events on that day, put that phrase into Facebook and see if there's one near you.

but yes to having speakers too!

I am just reading about the UN and what their campaign is looking to do endviolence.un.org/what.shtml but must go to bed soon.
