I just popped over to see what they were discussing on Gransnet Feminist chat but they don’t appear to have it over there. I’m sure others here may know why that is, but can anyone enlighten me please.

Gosh! Would you post something about the consultation Gin... they will have strong views that they would like included I imagine

CarolinePooter · 21/10/2018 11:11

They are probably all over here already. I am a gran but don't find much of interest on Gransnet. xx

FlippinFumin · 21/10/2018 11:15

Gransnet? What is this thing of which you speak?

GinZing · 21/10/2018 11:18

I’m not a Gran, just a nosey MNetter. I saw GNet advertised on here and was curious to see if they are talking about the same stuff on FWR.

love that's a great idea. I'd forgotten, but I think an FWRer asked them a while ago about trans issues and got a good response. I've just had a quick look and they have threads in AIBU and News & Politics about girl guides and adult human females that are supportive.

Charliethefeminist · 21/10/2018 11:25

The idea of an age gap between young woke and old bigots is ridiculous. Quite a number of middle aged to old, affluent, middle class women have said to me: I'm not bothered, doesn't affect me.

GinZing · 21/10/2018 11:29

I see there’s a Dadsnet too. I had no idea.

Charlie
This "middle aged to old, affluent, middle class woman" posted a link about the GRA on her Facebook page, got loads of abuse, was un-Friended, called a bigoted old TERF and had to delete Messenger off her phone to avoid some of it. Did not enjoy.

Charliethefeminist · 21/10/2018 11:35

Jeez jen that's shit Flowers I'm middle aged and affluent too, just saying I hate the lie that it's old vs young, like the old granny in Butterfly.

BertieBotts · 21/10/2018 11:38

The feminist topic didn't always exist on MN, we got it after asking HQ if we could have a dedicated space to discuss feminist issues as previously they would be all over in AIBU, relationships, chat.

Perhaps Gransnet started out with its own smaller set of topics and they haven't requested a feminism one?

OldCrone · 21/10/2018 11:39

Quite a number of middle aged to old, affluent, middle class women have said to me: I'm not bothered, doesn't affect me.

Wow. Do they only care about things that personally affect them? They might change their minds when they, or their elderly mothers, need personal care, and they have to accept it being provided by the big, burly bloke who goes by 'Daphne' and is a 'real woman' despite the beard and penis.

silentcrow · 21/10/2018 11:43

Maybe start a thread there that invites people over to discuss? I know it's tempting to close ranks, especially now, because we're all pretty knackered over this now, but if there's one thing that's hardened for me over this FiLiA weekend, it's that we've got to keep reaching out to each other, presenting information, making links and updating our knowledge.

Oh, someone gave me a flyer for the Older Feminists Network, that may be of interest.

Urbanbeetler · 21/10/2018 11:46

I don’t think we grannies need a separate space to discuss feminism. I feel safe enough here.

hipsterfun · 21/10/2018 12:09

I assumed/hoped the second-waver ‘grannies’ were on here?

BiologyIsReal · 21/10/2018 12:23

I post very rarely on Gransnet. They did have a feminism category but TBH it was very tumbleweed and then it disappeared (don't know why...).

As a second wave feminist I find myself having more in common with MN than Gransnet even though I would be the natural demographic for Gransnet.

AncientLights · 21/10/2018 12:47

I'm certainly Gransnet's natural demographic but I have very little in common with the average Gransnetter. However, it is the reason I came over here, so I'm glad for it anyway. I don't look elsewhere on MN either, only this board.

ohello · 21/10/2018 16:31

so strange... I must have already pre-selected my acquaintances because everyone I mentioned this to, responded by shouting, "WTF NO! QUICK, GIVE ME A PERVERT TO STRANGLE".

Grin
ohello · 21/10/2018 16:38

hmm yes I HAVE pre-selected without being aware of it... Now that i think about it, I do require everyone I am willing to converse with, to understand basic mechanisms of abuse, grooming, boundaries, women-are-human, etc.

If they don't, I allow them to drift down the murky river of life without me.

Coyoacan · 21/10/2018 16:51

Another grandmother here. The thing about this place is the high quality of the contributors.

PyeWackets · 21/10/2018 16:57

There was a long conversation a year or two ago about this issue, people thought I was mad when I said that self id was being pushed for. Last time I looked there was a thread in politics with a lot of informed gender critters. There are some excellent feminist voices on gransnet, I think most are also on here.

Eppursimuove · 21/10/2018 18:04

I'm the demographic for GN, but come here because a- it's a hell of a lot more interesting, b- I don't like being used as another source of revenue by MN, just because I'm old.

borntobequiet · 21/10/2018 18:11

I’m a gran, went to Gransnet once and came back immediately.

borntobequiet · 21/10/2018 18:13

And just went back again but I don’t like their font.
