Sophie Walker Women's Equality Party taking a break

Sophie Walker is taking a break from Twitter.

twitter.com/SophieRunning/status/1052911365176877056

"I am stepping away to take some personal leave and a break from social media. Please contact @WEP_UK central office with any questions in the meantime. Thank you and best wishes. Sophie."

The first comment on there referencing the WEP's support of Stonewall's guidance regarding the GRA. Which was not agreed at conference.

"I’m guessing it may have something to do with this which links to Stonewall’s guidance and has definitely gone against what as agreed at conference...even a party meant for women has thrown us under a bus...."

Anybody know what's gone on there?

So - WEP has come out for the Stonewall guidance?

Hell Mend Them!

Tho' this just shores up my sense that I was right to leave over their lack of due process with HBE.

Weezol · 21/10/2018 11:08

Their antics parachuting into Shipley and splitting the vote put me off a long time ago,and nothing they've done since has made me want to go back.

It's a real shame, there was so much potential in the beginning.

arranfan · 21/10/2018 11:11

Now I've calmed - I can't see that notice on the site?

Any confirmation that this is official WEP rather than one of their more biased branches?

breastfeedingclownfish · 21/10/2018 11:17

Fuck sake - Glasgow branch of Women's Equality Party - bio says 'they/them'

And promoting the Stonewall consultation click response

breastfeedingclownfish · 21/10/2018 11:19

What the actual fuck is wrong with these women?

transdimensional · 21/10/2018 11:21

I can't imagine how the Glasgow branch's pronoun could have been anything other than "they", assuming they have more than one member, to be fair? It's a classic plural...?

FekkoTheLawyer · 21/10/2018 11:21

'They' this is just admitting that men are women eh? I can't think of a suitable glaswegian expression for this. 🤔

breastfeedingclownfish · 21/10/2018 11:24

Pure fucking pish fekko

trans I was thinking about the female behind the account but I take your point

transdimensional · 21/10/2018 11:24

Breastfeedingclownfish,
The Glasgow tweet you screenshot doesn't mention or link to Stonewall. It links directly to the gov't consultation.
I agree that if they promote self-id or the Stonewall response, that is obviously wrong and disappointing!

arranfan · 21/10/2018 11:24

It's WEP Glasgow rather than WEP? And why get into the pronoun thing at all on a WEP account?

If Sophie W is stepping away rather than showing leadership about this then Hell Mend Her still.

But, if it's rogue branches rather than WEP, I'm prepared to be less annoyed.

If WEP made a submission, I very much want to see it. And I want to know whey they weren't out there, like FPFW and WPUK, providing guidance and even their own One-Click.

booze2shoes · 21/10/2018 11:41

I live in Shipley and was very angry with WEP for parachuting in too but if any party was going to stand up on this you would have thought it would be one that literally has 'women's equality' in the name. FFS.

NoSquirrels · 21/10/2018 11:44

It’s a break from Twitter - not a ‘break’ from politics/party, isn’t it?

arranfan · 21/10/2018 11:47

Personal leave could be many things (including health or family problems). But, to me, it sounds like a break from everything, not just social media.

And, politics is brutal. But, Sophie W has not shown leadership on the GRA - they've been hedging and failing to act with integrity from the HBE incident onwards.

gendercritter · 21/10/2018 11:55

You've got to be kidding me. They're promting Stonewall?

breastfeedingclownfish · 21/10/2018 11:59

No it's the government site she is linking to - I made a mistake.

However, she is saying
"Today is the last day to respond to the GRA Reform consultation. @WEP_Glasgow is a trans inclusive branch with many passionate trans allies. Change is often difficult, but we need to take this step and reform GRA."

arranfan · 21/10/2018 12:06

Change is often difficult, but we need to take this step and reform GRA.

Fixed that for Sophie W: Change is often difficult, but we need to take this step and reform repeal the GRA as it's redundant.

AspieAndProud · 21/10/2018 15:18

I can't think of a suitable glaswegian expression for this

Pure gie'in' me the boak?

Imnobody4 · 21/10/2018 16:06

I suspect she's had enough of this. 'She who rides a tiger never can dismount'

Vixxxy · 21/10/2018 16:23

You know, I was actually considering joining the WEP, given they seem to recently allow debate on this topic. But now they have endorsed fucking stonewall, who are about as anti-woman as they come, and encouraged people to fill in the consultation with stonewalls guidance (that specifically ignores womans needs)..fuck that.

arranfan · 21/10/2018 17:02

Vixxxy - WEP is not showing leadership but it seems like the Stonewall endorsement is WEP Glasgow - not the official WEP account, IYSWIM.
