That thread title isn’t the best, tbh Grin

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 20/10/2018 20:55

Sterilising children who, left to develop to adulthood naturally, would not choose sterility, is not acceptable as a long-term policy

Well quite

OldCrone · 20/10/2018 20:59

The full title of the article is
"Lord Lucas: 'Sterilising children' to treat gender dysphoria is not an acceptable long-term policy"

A good article. Two comments, one by Natacha Kennedy, with the usual misinformation.

Juells · 20/10/2018 21:02

"He should be told to stop doing it" was my first thought when I saw the thread title Grin

hipsterfun · 20/10/2018 21:03

It’s not acceptable as a medium or short-term policy either.

Quite how anyone ever thought it was the right path to start down is a mystery.

BigotedWoman · 20/10/2018 21:05

Good article, even at first glance I thought you'd written Lord Lucan ShockBlush

TRAs write like sixth formers padding out essays. There's paragraph upon paragraph but nothing there.

calpop · 20/10/2018 21:06

Just spent a really confused couple of minutes thinking, "so have they found him? wjy is he sterlilising children?" 😁

calpop · 20/10/2018 21:06

x post BW, me too!

Procrastinator1 · 20/10/2018 21:07

Good, sensible article. I hope someone who is registered can ask whether Mark agrees with Natascha.

BigotedWoman · 20/10/2018 21:08

Grin calpop that's what he's been doing this whole time.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 20/10/2018 21:13

I initially read this as Lord Lucan, too, and thought "Hang on. What's he got to do with anything?"

A clearer title would be helpful, OP.

Do the TRAs really not get it about sterilisation, or are they being disingenuous?

Children are unable to get cross sex hormones until they are 16 years old so no children are being steralised

If a child has been on puberty blockers until 16, no puberty, no fertility.

Firstly puberty blockers have been prescribed for decades, since the late 1970s, to treat precocious puberty, and there have been no negative side-effects toto this treatment recorded in a population that received this treatment that is now in its 40s

For short term use, after which the child progresses through a normal puberty, unlike transgender children.

Many young trans people undergo fertility treatment to store gametes prior to surgery, some elect not to, some come off hormones for a short period to do this

Again, no puberty, no fertility.

Some trans men even elect to preserve their fertility fo they can bear children as cis women do

Again, no puberty, no fertility.

Unless my biology is completely wrong?

VMisaMarshmallow · 20/10/2018 22:57

And there’s a huge amount of evidence of negative side effects from puberty blockers that were given to treat precious puberty- life running ones like crumbling bones.

AspieAndProud · 20/10/2018 23:46

Just a thought. Hans Asperger, after whom Asperger’s is named, was a member of the Nazi party. However he empathised the positive aspects of those with high functioning autism, claiming that all geniuses are touched by the condition. He never advocated the sterilisation of the children he studied.

Now, in 2018, we have trans advocacy groups campaigning for puberty blockers that make their recipients sterile; and a high percentage o these children have ASD.

So, some of these people are literally worse than Nazis.

LorettasBox · 20/10/2018 23:50

Its the 'new' science, isn't it? People do intensely warped by their worldview that they don't register that if you put a child on drugs which will stunt their development into fertile adults of the sex they belong to, that child is rendered sterile.

I'd love to think that maybe this was all down to stupidity on their part, but disturbingly, I'm quite sure some of them are well aware of the actual science and genuinely don't care.

BigGreenOlives · 20/10/2018 23:55

The comment by N Kennedy that young people has agency is scary as it suggests they do not need protection/safeguarding.

Sadly we know what sort of person believes this.

TwistedStitch · 21/10/2018 00:01

He's also retweeted a link to the We're Still Here MN thread so he appears to be following this whole issue closely. Another Conservative though, so let down by Labour.

nauticant · 21/10/2018 00:07

Another one here who read:

Lord Lucan sterilizing children certainly startled me. But I'll now go and read the article.
