In today's Times - I'll put the shared link in the next post as not sure it works from the OP

OP posts:
BoreOfWhabylon · 20/10/2018 11:45

Can't C&P but one of the comments is from an ex-editor of Woman's Hour, agreeing with every word Janice says.

ElfrideSwancourt · 20/10/2018 12:39

I noticed that too BoreofWhabylon - v interesting!

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2018 12:42

Yeah, they got owned though, didn't they? By the facts

Who needs facts when they have Noravirus Media?

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2018 12:43

Which reminds me, has Owen quit the Guardian yet?

I hear Noravirus don't pay too well.

breastfeedingclownfish · 20/10/2018 12:54

A great article Janice. A fucking scandal that it had to be written though.

Flowers to you. You are doing important work for women and children.

I can't see - who is it?

Rubidium · 20/10/2018 14:35

arranfan It's Sally Feldman:
"Congratulations on your brave and tireless commentary on this truly awful matter. I read your articles for enlightenment and good sense and for a warm feeling that someone is saying what I think only much better. Sally Feldman (former editor of Woman's Hour)"

KataraJean
I am glad she stated what Professor Whittle said. While welcome that Whittle acknowledged thereafter that it was appropriate, changing the online copy of the Guardian erases the fact that Whittle said it for future readers.

Yes, that appalling statement by Whittle in the Guardian should not be forgotten. Would Whittle even have contacted the Guardian to get it changed if we had not all pointed out how abhorrent it was, I wonder?

Shampooeeee · 20/10/2018 16:19

Another great article by Janice.

VickyEadie · 20/10/2018 16:58

A range of good comments (as well, obviously, as some daft ones, including what looks like unscientific homophobia bizarrely dressed up as science) underneath, too.

heresyandwitchcraft · 20/10/2018 17:08

Janice Turner Flowers
We should create our own journalism prizes, and name one after you.

arranfan · 20/10/2018 17:16

You know Sandy Draws Badly did a drawing with Linda B, Venice A, etc. quite recently - maybe we need Janice added to it...

OvaHere · 20/10/2018 17:40

Someone in the comments section mentioned this as a historical situation that bears similarities to transactivism. I'd not heard of it before, it's worth a read.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysenkoism

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/10/2018 17:47

That was such a clear piece

I really envy people who can marshal an argument like that, the inside of their head must be so neat and tidy!

Scary stuff. People imprisoned, executed and sent to gulags. The phrase "new biology" leapt out.

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2018 18:05

It's just same old authoritarian regressive shit.

How did the Islamic enlightenment end for example?

History. And how we are doomed to repeat.

OvaHere · 20/10/2018 20:56

Yes as did this passage below

Lysenko was admitted into the hierarchy of the Communist Party, and was put in charge of agricultural affairs. He used his position to denounce biologists as "fly-lovers and people haters",[9] and to decry the "wreckers" in biology, who he claimed were trying to purposely disable the Soviet economy and cause it to fail. Furthermore, he denied the distinction between theoretical and applied biology.

quixote9 · 20/10/2018 21:09

When I grow up I want to write like Janice Turner!

Binglebong · 20/10/2018 21:24

Has anyone got a link/share token to the editors position? I saw it on Facebook but now can't find it. Thanks.

Brilliant work as always Janice.

AspieAndProud · 20/10/2018 21:26

They don’t teach about Lysenko at school because they rarely touch on the crimes of the Soviet Union.

It’s always a brave and stunning revolution that only failed because the West was mean to it.
