Trans activists smoke bomb protest the metro

Jim Waterson
@jimwaterson
Trans activists have set off smoke bombs outside the entrance to Northcliffe House, HQ of the Daily Mail/Metro/Independent. Unclear if they're protesting against the Mail - or the Metro taking the advert last week - but staff leaving by side entrance.

Consensus seems to be they're protesting against The Metro, which took an anti-trans ad last week. Unfortunately Metro print edition staff don't work Fridays. (The entirely separate Metro website has also had some trouble over the sister paper taking the ad, apparently.)

Oh dear. In this post-Charlie Hebdo world attacking a newspaper HQ is really not a good look. But I guess you can do anything when you're stunning and brave?

deepwatersolo · 20/10/2018 05:22

No matter how one judges the severity/aggression/panic inducement potential of this smoke protest, it is clearly way more threatening and aggressive than those protesting women with leaflets, on whom police on horseback was unleashed. To remain proportionate to that, the state would have had to enter tank and watercannon territory...

AngryAttackKittens · 20/10/2018 05:31

So, let me get this straight. Harassing the offices of the Metro and the Daily Mail in a way that could arguably be considered terrorism because people get a bit nervous when they hear shouting and see smoke in Central London, in a media environment in which every journalist remembers what happened to Charlie Hebdo and is aware that it could have been them instead, is supposed to make the papers less hostile towards the group of people who pulled that stunt?

I'd like to refer the group that planned this to Bunbury's "Guide to Effective Political Organizing for People What Don't Think Good".

NotBadConsidering · 20/10/2018 05:32

Probably the most depressing thing is when you google this the top hit is this thread. No one else reporting it.

IdaBWells · 20/10/2018 05:49

NotBadConsidering yes, so typical, men’s real threatening behaviour is overlooked and goes unreported while women having civilized open meetings, which are calm and well organized are demonized. This whole issue has really opened my eyes to how incredibly selective the news media is.

But science, reality and sanity is on our side. We don’t have to twist and change language to express ourselves. We are able to use simple straightforward language to express ourselves that everyone understands. We can use simple regular language to express ourselves because we are describing reality. They have to create new words, new ideology and try and foster the take-up of these concepts upon people who are often confused and baffled by them because they are based partly in an internal fantasy that they want us all to pretend is real.

DoctorTwo · 20/10/2018 06:01

Had the bad-wigged lot been black or Muslim men, I’m sure the authorities would have responded with real force.

I agree. Their feet would not have touched the ground. These wastes of DNA have teflon coating, her majesty's finest are handling them with kid gloves.

IdaBWells · 20/10/2018 06:02

OK now I’m confused, who is this group “Sisters Uncut”? Are they Transwomen mostly but they are co-opting the women’s suffrage movement colours? Are they confusing things by having people think they are radical feminists?

Bonions · 20/10/2018 07:52

Still nothing being reported by the media, as far as I can see.

LOJ has retweeted this, which is nice. So glad he’s there to tell us to which acts are phobic, inciting violence and enforcing a toxic narrative (stickers) and which acts are on the right side of history (smoke bombs). Hoorah for kinder gentler politics!

Co-opting a women’s rights movement to celebrate the erosion of women’s rights is also joyous and wonderful.

They are actually completely fucking stupid

Acorninspring · 20/10/2018 09:29

I'm really surprised this hasn't been reported? At least by the DM / metro?

BigotedWoman · 20/10/2018 09:53

If nothing is reported, will that not make some of the journalists think? E.g. Jim Waterston was tweeting about it, surely he thinks it should be reported on even though he is pro trans?

BigotedWoman · 20/10/2018 09:54

(Using his words, not mine btw - he described the Metro as as "anti-trans".)

AbsintheFriends · 20/10/2018 10:00

The 'gotcha' tweets about the suffragettes have made my blood BOIL.

The thing was that in the early 1900s, 'smashing windows and blowing up letterboxes' WAS "male' behaviour. That's partly why they fucking did it - to get men to take them seriously and realise they weren't silly little women who would obediently shut up when told. Their aggressive behaviour was entirely UNPREDICTABLE, because they were women.

Exactly the opposite to the current bunch of spoiled narcissist TRAs, who have form for aggression and male bullying behaviour and want to further men's rights. (But reversal is always a favourite tactic of theirs, I guess.)

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 20/10/2018 10:01

Metro might have decided not to give them the oxygen of publicity.

deepwatersolo · 20/10/2018 10:05

I saw an independent article I believe. Will try find it.

PurpleCrowbar · 20/10/2018 10:07

I'd like to think that's because the Mail have their sleeves rolled up, the knuckles of their typing fingers cracked, & are furiously banging out a zinger of a front page...

Honestly. Chucking fucking incendiary devices about, to demonstrate how fluffy & harmless & entitled to shower with your grandma after aquarobics they are?! Dim.

FekkoTheLawyer · 20/10/2018 10:13

Twitter is funny though. They are saying 'I don't see smoke' (video posted) 'I didn't see smoke' (video) 'no smoke') video.'Oh they were only singing and dancing!''How can that be scary?'

I do hope their adamence that annie lennox is 'one of them' is a big fat hairy liem

AngryAttackKittens · 20/10/2018 10:16

If the mood at the Times is as reported & with this attack on a media outlet, makes you wonder if a number of the the Sunday papers are busy doing the same.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 20/10/2018 10:19

I hope so, maybe they been silenced by the mysterious person in parliament who is pushing this and reporting DD to the police.

deepwatersolo · 20/10/2018 10:22

Where did you hear of mistery person in parliament pushing this Kirk?
