Sorry to start a new thread of something that's been covered 1000 times so far.

I'm just arguing on fb & have been told that self-ID is not a part of the proposed reforms.

Need a direct link/concise answer.

Yes it's part of the proposed reforms to the GRA.
that's what the consultation is about, removing doctor involvment and lettign anyone identify as a woman.

Removing medical checks so people can self-declare as trans is one of the questions in the consultation!

With no medical diagnosis or medical reason for a man to argue he needs to be recognised as the opposite sex why on earth would he want to? Or should he be able to?

DaisyTwirl · 18/10/2018 16:15

I said that to him - he's backed off now.
Told me if I 'have a view on this then fill in the consultation' - told him I already have.

I await further incoming...

Thanks xx

If people are claiming that self ID is not part of the consultation, they have either misunderstood it or have realised that self ID is not popular and are calling it something else.

The consultation is to decide whether or not the medical part of the process should be removed. That would allow anyone to self ID without any kind of diagnosis or gatekeeping.
Self ID is literally the point of the current govt consultation. The Govt want to introduce it, many organisations are acting as if it already law.

Labour have said they will implement it and they want to review the Equality Act.

''The Labour Party has explicitly confirmed that trans women who self-identify are eligible for all women shortlists and women’s officer roles.''
