Jeremy Corbyn is quoted as saying he thinks the EA should be reformed AS WELL as Self-ID

Surely this can’t possibly be true?

This is huge.

TerfedOff · 17/10/2018 22:39

Oh dear.

This isn't good.

KatVonGulag · 17/10/2018 22:39

I think he's right.
It needs reforming to strengthen women's rights to single sex spaces.

It's pointless at the moment. Look what's happened. It all needs sorting out so the two protected characteristics don't contradict each other.

heresyandwitchcraft · 17/10/2018 22:49

So, the Labour power play is going to be for the "woke" people?
It's ridiculous. They'll lose SO many ordinary voters over this. Not just women, but others as more people start talking about it.

OvaHere · 17/10/2018 23:04

I don't think Jezza actually wants the top job hence why losing voters doesn't matter. The minute you take power you become the establishment and I don't think that is how he sees himself. Better to alienate people and stay as a contrarian opposition.

anotherGCacademic · 17/10/2018 23:08

Chilling, really scary.

GCAcademic · 17/10/2018 23:42

The right wing media will pounce on anything to keep Labour out of power. This is an absolute gift to them.

Redkeyboard · 17/10/2018 23:58

It’s insane and will not win votes.

When I was younger, I used to really resent people who went round saying 'I told you so'. And now I feel like it's probably going to be on my headstone when I eventually pop off.

www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/10/17/jeremy-corbyn-pinknews-awards-2018/amp/

The link for them as wants to click.

Labour supports reform of the Gender Recognition Act and Equality Act to allow for self-declaration. The deadline for Government’s consultation is on Friday.

“Trans people must be able to live full, healthy, and happy lives—being the person they want to be. Labour will stand up for their right to do so.”

The relevant quote for them as doesn't want to click.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/10/2018 00:31

The rot has spread to the Tories too:

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/oct/17/transgender-law-reform-has-overlooked-womens-rights-say-mps

"Davies [MP for Monmouth] said he had been threatened with police action by another Conservative MP for holding meetings in parliament with women’s groups critical of the reforms.

LGBT+ Conservativess^, the party’s official LGBT group, has called Davies’ comments that someone with male genitalia is “definitely not a woman” transphobic and abhorrent."

Different parties, same silencing tactics

So, you know, the next time one of the slimy gits wheedles on about a small administrative change that won't affect women's rights, which are covered by the Equality Act, you can tell them to remind magic grandad about it, because we're not buying it.

Redkeyboard · 18/10/2018 00:48

Magic grandad lol

Oh I'm claiming the Told You o prize for my posts when Corbyn was first elected leader. Not just this issue but everything about him. I never bought the idea that he was a good guy.

I sincerely hope his game plan is not to be elected.

I didn't say so at the time beyond a general comment that I would never vote for the WEP but I thought when they appeared that will end in tears too. I assumed just non-specific uselessness than any particular uselessness.

Oldstyle · 18/10/2018 00:50

This is as depressing as hell. But the Guardian editorial was very nearly almost sort of balanced. Bed time.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 18/10/2018 07:34

I was a life long labour supporter. No more

Floisme · 18/10/2018 07:40

I should be upset about this - 44 years of voting labour. But I'm surprised at how little I feel. I'm mostly just curious to see what women MPs will make of it.

It just seems like such a monumentally stupid thing to do. Does he seriously believe there are more TRAs than women?

Charliethefeminist · 18/10/2018 07:52

It's as if the borg have thought better hung for a sheep than a lamb. They see the tide is turning so why not admit what they've wanted all along in an effort to muster more votes from a sluggish demographic.

Gacapa · 18/10/2018 07:55

Final nail hammered, Jeremy.

IKeepFlouncing · 18/10/2018 08:08

Corrupt corrupt corrupt corrupt

RepealtheGRA · 18/10/2018 08:14

The last time the Labour Party was actually the Labour Party was under Neil Kinnock. It’s been a populist dangerous farce since the days of Blair. There are some excellent rank and file members but sadly rather than the cream rising to the top, the shit is floating.

If I was wearing my tin foil hat I might think that jezza is a sleeper cell that the far right have finally decided to deploy.
