and for that matter any protected groups right to live free of harassment, prejudice and disadvantage. I am simply against self id and men having unfettered access to our spaces and services. That is the thrust of speaking up, and the more direct action required when this is ignored.

I know I speak for a lot of women on this.

Do you find it interesting that we’re supposed to start any comment re our disquiet about self ID with “I support trans rights” or “ of course transpeople should be free to live their lives without discrimination” but the transactivists never say “I support women’s rights” or similar.

This isn’t about trans rights. It’s about men’s demands. They are hiding it behind “trans rights” but that’s just a lie.

I don’t support men’s demands. Especially if they try to obscure them from proper scrutiny.

Sort of rhetorical post, but I just wish people would see we are not targeting trans people as a specific group or arguing their right to live decent lives should be rolled back. We have legitimate concerns about the current proposals conveniently ignored and quite different.

What sweary said. And being in possession of a GRC (the protected group) does not mean you’ve had any kind of surgery, and obviously doesn’t mean you’ve changed sex as that’s not possible.

WomanDictionaryDefined · 17/10/2018 21:58

The TRAs I have been spoken to on sm start by telling me they support women's rights and transwomen are women and if I am not including them then I am a transphobe and a misogynist.

HeadDesk.

WomanDictionaryDefined · 17/10/2018 22:00

That's the men, the women just unfriend, block and omit all knowledge of ever having known me.

Talk to the hand, at least I think that's what it used to be called.

HeadDesk.

WomanDictionaryDefined · 17/10/2018 22:03

The majority, however, of all people everywhere say "no surgery, a penis! that's entirely different, men have penises not women! No no that won't do at all, email the link and I will send it to..." AGHAST at the stupidity.

LangCleg · 17/10/2018 22:17

I support women and girls. I should have no need for a disclaimer to that and I don't give a shit about being called names because of it.

I have no particular desire to throw old school transsexuals under the bus but I will not be prioritising them over women and girls.

We've seen the slippery slope that occurs whenever you give males the slightest opportunity and I won't be part of that slippery slope.

Also - no males will be getting any female socialisation off me.

Hope that's all clear!

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 17/10/2018 22:21

I just don't think the problem of males who reject masculinity and masculinity's rejection of unmasculine males has anything whatever to do with us.

You sort it out, males.

LangCleg · 17/10/2018 22:21

We have legitimate concerns about the current proposals

It's not about the proposals alone though, is it? It's about the endless areas where orgs and institutions have "got ahead of the law". It's about violent intimidation of women. It's about silencing. It's about totalitarianism. It's about rapists already in women's prisons. And the list goes on and on and Ariston.

So no, I'm not going to preface everything with self-effacement and apologies and endless acceptance of compromise. Fuck that.

IKeepFlouncing · 17/10/2018 22:31

I vote NO for self ID

I shall always stand up and speak up for anyone that is bullied, imitated, silenced or feels fear that has been caused by another.

I will not turn a blind eye to corruption or wrong doings of another.

A friend of mine (high-up in a women's organisation in Scotland) got badly misrepresented by doing this in an interview. She prefaced her remarks with how much she supported the rights of trans people before going on to raise concerns about women's rights. The journalist then quoted the first part of what she'd said as proof that any right-thinking women's organisation supports the GRA reforms. She's furious.

LorettasBox · 17/10/2018 22:37

Ooo, Lang, you do fire me up with that rallying cry. No more Mrs Mouse. Women and Girls in the centre of Feminism, as it should be.

Putting my foot down with a firm hand here.
