I'm in a twitter spat with someone who is saying that Transwomen are already in women's spaces and that the changes to the GRA are just to Make gaining the very easier for those applying for it.

I just don't know where to go from there. As far as I'm now concerned, I'm not tolerant to the plight of any transwomen and given that they are NOT and NEVER WILL BE WOMEN, I don't think they should be in any spaces.

When I get the "we already are" answer, I don't know how to counter this.

Is this making sense? Help me see the wood from the trees please.

Trans women are already in spaces socially (not legally) reserved for women, this is true.

What is now proposed is that a far, far wider group of males are recognised as trans women legally.

And that therefore the spaces legally reserved for women are potentially opened to this much larger group of males, with the decision as to how lawful it is to refuse them resting like the sword of Damocles above the head of the unfortunate service provider making the decision.

Your answer lies in what spaces are socially reserved for women (into which trans women already, quite lawfully, go) such as pub toilets, quite a few changing rooms, most WI meetings, etc etc, versus which ones are legally reserved for females under the exemptions such as refuges and shelters.

One question might be that if trans women can already go into any women's space they choose, and it will make no difference to anybody, why is reform so pressing? Either reform will make no difference or it is so vital to human rights that to even question the necessity of reform is to align yourself with hatred and borderline murderousness. I'm not sure you can have that both ways.
