Sarah Champion weaponising suicide

"I’m deeply sorry to say that one poor soul killed themselves in #Rotherham last week. The trans community are being terrorised, especially on social media. The consequences are horrific"

This is shockingly unprofessional from an elected MP as there would need to be an inquest to determine what happened and why, and that clearly has not yet happened.

She's a total muppet

KatVonGulag · 16/10/2018 14:46

She also thinks taking magic beans can help you choose the sex of your baby. Or some such crap.

ShotsFired · 16/10/2018 14:52

She needs to get in the sea with that trash.

minionsragirlsbestfriend · 16/10/2018 14:54

Isn't she among those who certain survivors on Twitter refer to as promoting themselves through their abuse but failing to stop it? Obviously they can't name names yet... apologies if I have my assumption wrong

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/10/2018 14:54

Christ. Does she not realise how utterly irresponsible that is! I really wish the Samaritans would speak out on this, I guess they are scared too.

An interesting reply:

What is it about Rotherham that enables people to forget about safeguarding?

KatVonGulag · 16/10/2018 16:10

I see Paris "I LOVE being cat called" Lee's is commenting at how toxic the debate is on the twitter thread.

Yeah Paris I agree. Look at the TRAs labelling JK Rowling a terf on Pink News this very day.

JK has literally done nothing, she's an LGBT ally. They just suspect her of thought crimes. She's not pure.

Oh and Paris, if the hassling of women on the street ever becomes a hate crime I hope you have the decency to delete that pathetic article. You might need the validation but I sure as hell don't.

I don't think the 'counter statistic' of no suicide by a trans youth is correct either, though, which doesn't help. The Tavistock record a small but definitely non-zero number. Wish every damn person would fact check rather than just spouting off.

HamiltonCork · 16/10/2018 16:15

She really is as thick as mince.

TerfedOff · 16/10/2018 16:18

The thing is if a transgender person commits suicide do we always put it down to them being transgender or do we accept that they may just be a normal person with the usual reasons for committing suicide that anyone else might have.

hackmum · 16/10/2018 16:21

The trans community are being terrorised? What about women being threatened with rape and murder? Don't they count?

Is she on glue?

TerfedOff · 16/10/2018 16:22

I've just seen this on Twitter Clarifying the situation

A trans woman in Rotherham committed suicide (in 2014, not 'last week'). The coroner said their leukaemia diagnosis and the recent death of their mother were the significant factors. Not them being trans. Sarah Champion MP implies it was because they were bullied for being trans t.co/52qxXxsWex

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/10/2018 16:29

And that's why it's so fucking irresponsible

"Remember that there is a risk of imitational behaviour due to ‘over-identification’.

Vulnerable individuals may identify with a person who has died, or with the circumstances in which a person took their own life."

"Approximately 90 per cent of people who die by suicide have a diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health problem at the time of death.

Over-simplification of the causes or perceived ‘triggers’ for a suicide can be misleading and is unlikely to reflect accurately the complexity of suicide."

"Be wary of over-emphasising community expressions of grief.

Doing so may suggest that people are honouring the suicidal behaviour rather than mourning a death."

"Don’t label locations as ‘hot spots’ or refer to a possible rise in suicides in a particular place or among a specific group as an ‘epidemic’."

"Be careful not to promote the idea that suicide achieves results."

Dear Sarah Champion

You want me to vote for a party so drunk on Kool Aid that it weaponises and lies about suicide?

Fuck. Right. Off.

Never in a million years will I vote for you.

Also: tell membership to stop fucking emailing me. I left you. I'm not a member any more and you behaving like an abusive ex who refuses to believe he's been left doesn't help matters.

Lang

PS: Fuck off. Again.

QuietContraryMary · 16/10/2018 16:33

If this suicide happened in 2014 I'm not even sure what the fuck she's claiming. In 2014 this was all fields. The debate started probably late 2015 with the Tara Hudson case.

OP posts:
KatVonGulag · 16/10/2018 16:40

That's just down right irresponsible.

Shame on her

hackmum · 16/10/2018 16:47

It's absolutely appalling. So she got the timing wrong - by a mere four years - and the probable cause wrong. Is she going to apologise?

Following on from the drugs-can-change-chromosomes tweet, I am in despair that this woman actually represents people in parliament. God help us.

hackmum · 16/10/2018 16:49

She has another tweet that says: "45% of trans people attempt suicide, that’s what concerns me." Don't these people ever bother checking their facts?

scepticalwoman · 16/10/2018 17:03

Sometimes I read something that an MP has said that is so utterly indefensible it makes me want to cry. That she could misuse someone's tragic death in order to "prove her point" in this way defies belief.

Where did she leave her values, let alone her compassion? A disgusting thing to say!

LangCleg · 16/10/2018 17:06

And absolutely loads of tweets from Sarah about CSE and CSA. Perhaps she might like to read the trans lobby group school guidance, which drives a coach and horses through safeguarding frameworks not only for girls but also for trans children. Surely she does not approve of making abuser infiltration easier by the adoption of this guidance?

Sarah: you're embarrassing yourself. And children will pay the price of your ignorance.
