Clear message from a number of transsexuals (some of whom were involved in TS Voices, a shortlived GC group which was deliberately destroyed by one of the members). They have also sent it to Woman's Hour. transsexualwomen1.blogspot.com/

That's a good piece and very clear about the original expectations of the number of people that would transition and the differences between transsexuals and the transgender umbrella.

DaisyTwirl · 15/10/2018 21:45

It makes me sad & angry reading that.

Sad that people who have already been through so much have been pushed to putting themselves in the line of fire & are having to refight for their protection in law all over again - and angry that TRAs have forced this to happen.

Equally angry & sad that millions of women have been similarly affected & forced to fight for our rights all over again - all because of a toxic group of narcissistic, woman-hating wankers.

scepticalwoman · 15/10/2018 22:11

Thoughtful and very sad that we have ended up here.

Needmoresleep · 15/10/2018 22:40

It is such a pity that the concept of gender dysmorphia, which I have no problem with, is being hijacked.

I think the same applies to intersex.

Both are genuinely rare conditions, and people with them should have support and understanding. As they suggest, access to female spaces needs to be negotiated. I would, say, want careful consideration given to whether a criminal with diagnosed dysmorphia should be put into a male or female prison.

But self ID and automatic access to the Girl Guides, refuges etc for cross-dressers, fetishists etc. No. Absolutely not.

Oldstyle · 15/10/2018 22:42

Yes it is. It's becoming more and more evident that this isn't about TS rights, they are being thrown under the same bus as the rest of us woman. It's about the rights of men to do whatever they want to do and to hell with everyone else.

I'd like to thank the contributors very much for the considered and respectful blog at the link above.

I've found it has made me quite tearful to think about the way of life being kicked out from under by TRA madness.

One of the contributors works for the same organisation as me; I can't tell you what it means to me to see their view represented here.

Solidarity, courage and thanks to you all.

newtlover · 15/10/2018 23:12

thanks to those brave people, I appreciate it
reading it reminds me how I got to where I am now- I started off thinking that 'transgender' meant those people with genuine issues who we could accept in some of our places as a kindness- and I thought it was a tiny number of people anyway....the activists really have blown it for these people and I'm very sorry about that.

KayM2 · 15/10/2018 23:56

It is so good that people can see that this whole business has driven a painful and probably permanent wedge between the trans and transsexual groupings. Many transsexual women and men are lining up with the opponents of the proposed changes to the GRA. Although as transsexual people we are few, we hope that our input will serve as significant extra evidence to go with that of the much greater numbers of women , and men too, who see " easy self ID " as a dangerous move.

ToeToToe · 16/10/2018 01:11

That is an amazing blog, very poignant, and demonstrates so well how the law change to benefit transexuals has been hijacked.

It is indeed very sad to read - and I sincerely hope that the people the original GRA was written for, are not forgotten during this consultation. Organisations like Stonewall and Mermaids seem to have sadly forgotten them in favour of self ID.

placemats · 16/10/2018 01:14

It's a powerfully written post. I just wanted to add my solidarity to all of them.

WomanDictionaryDefined · 16/10/2018 01:31

To the point, correct and entirely fair. It should get as much air as possible.

Transideology is damaging to everyone except mysogynists.

grahamsmom · 16/10/2018 02:41

Thanks to the persons who wrote the blog. It brought tears to my eyes. Hope it gets widespread attention.

Mumsnut · 16/10/2018 06:26

transsexualwomen1.blogspot.com/

Perhaps show them this - a blog post by some of the group for whom the GRA was enacted.

Floisme · 16/10/2018 07:24

That made me feel quite upset. We could have sorted this out if TRAs hadn't taken over. Flowers if anyone from the blog is reading this.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 16/10/2018 07:26

Transideology = narcissism.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 16/10/2018 07:26

Transwomen are not women.

Women do not have penises.

kesstrel · 16/10/2018 07:57

KayM2 Thank you for your post. Flowers I am making a number of references to the views and endangerment of transsexual people like yourself in my response on the GRC consultation, and I hope others are doing the same.

InfiniteSheldon · 16/10/2018 08:10

That was very moving

LangCleg · 16/10/2018 08:42

We are very concerned by the aggressive tactics and angry demands of the trans activists and just want to continue living peacefully via mutual respect as we have done for half a century. But changing the GRA from medical assessment must concern society, in particular women, who understandably say NO.

They may conclude that the only solution will be to exclude everyone - including us. They cannot possibly know the physical or mental status of all those newly self-identified women who now selfishly demand acceptance because they say so.

I, for one, have already concluded this. And, while I retain sympathy for transsexuals, I'm afraid I won't be reverting back. We have seen what happens when lines are blurred and the best I can offer transsexuals now is support for any campaign for third spaces.

Floisme · 16/10/2018 08:48

I think that's the problem. People keep saying we need to compromise but that's exactly what the 2004 GRA was: a compromise. And just look where compromise has got us.

Mumsnut · 16/10/2018 12:01

[facepalm] Just realised I posted on the wrong thread. Sorry all.

Melamin · 16/10/2018 12:05

Feel sorry for them - not a mention on Woman's Hour. They are totally ignored in this debate, which is supposed to be all about them Hmm

(know the feeling all too well #invisible)

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 16/10/2018 14:29

I really feel for transsexuals and they are well and truely being thrown under the bus but I’m with LangCleg on this.

We have given an inch and they are going to take a mile and it has been an object lesson in how the safeguarding of rights MUST be uncompromising to work effectively. A third space is the only feesable solution now.

RiverTam · 16/10/2018 14:48

transsexuals are still men, thus they should not have access to women's spaces. They need access to good mental health support.

R0wantrees · 16/10/2018 15:02

I think it needs to be acknowledged that many of those transsexuals who campaigned for the GRA have continued campaigning for self-id and against women who have raised concerns.
