Does anyone have any idea what this is about?

Does Sarah Champion have children?

I'm gobsmacked that anyone can be this stupid.

Can she delete that tweet? Several replies have helpfully pointed out how thick it makes her look.

theOtherPamAyres · 15/10/2018 00:00

Sarah Champion was appointed to the Women & Equalities Parliamentary Committee in June 2018.

Her tweets fill me with confidence that she's the right person to be making sense of the consultation. Not.

And as for being the Shadow Women & Equalities shadow minister - I'm sure she'll do a great job of advising Jezza on Labour party's policies in this area. Not.

Imnobody4 · 15/10/2018 01:00

I'm starting to think parliament is made up of idiots and cowards. We're doomed.

theOtherPamAyres · 15/10/2018 01:00

Exhibit A - the gullible law-maker.

This is what you get when an MP relies on transgender lobbyists with an agenda, for their information.

This is what Kathleen Stock's speech to peers in the House of Lords was about - the reliance on quack science, without fact checking or some diligence over the credentials of advisers.

I mean, it's not batshittery about something important like protecting children from harm, or safeguarding, or ruining lives......oh hang on: Yes it is.

Resign, Sarah Champion. You are dangerous.

LassWiADelicateAir · 15/10/2018 01:04

I thought she was kicked out of/ resigned that role in 2017 for comments about grooming gangs (which were tbh some of her better moments) and the equally dim, but monumental Corbyn sycophant, Dawn Butler holds it.

HamiltonCork · 15/10/2018 05:08

Have we ever had such a woeful crop of MPs? They all seem to be as thick as mince.

AngryAttackKittens · 15/10/2018 06:17

"Thick or just coward?" seems to be the question of the moment.

Igneococcus · 15/10/2018 06:51

Thick! No question about it.

nottakingthisanymore · 15/10/2018 07:01

If anyone here is a constituent of hers can they please go and see her in her surgery and talk some sense to her.

pennydrew · 15/10/2018 07:24

She isn’t just stupid, she’s dangerous. What can we do? I really don’t think it’s ok for MP’s to be repeating these stats and just getting away with something so dangerous. Is there anything we can do?

AngryAttackKittens · 15/10/2018 07:32

I just can't get over the "someone said a doctor gave their child medicine and then they changed sex" bit. Did this person not get any sex education at school? Have they done away with that? If there was a jab or some pill that could literally change a person's sex then you'd think it would be all over the papers, since that would be a massive scientific achievement!

Dubious achievement in that why would we want to do that anyway, but certainly a bit of a marvel from a scientific perspective. Meanwhile what we actually have is artificial hormones that raise cancer risk and plastic surgery that usually isn't very convincing.

ChattyLion · 15/10/2018 07:35

Well she’s definitely painfully stupid based on all of this but i’m not sure she’s any worse than the rest of the MPs and Party leaders all mindlessly insisting that transwomen literally are women and how fucking dare ‘some feminists’ (they can’t call us ‘women’ cos then the jig is up Grin) have such a problem with that.

From memory since the Blair years there have been fewer and fewer professional scientists and medics or even scientifically qualified people standing as MPs.

I guess that’s why science organisations like the Royal Society do an exchange scheme to try to give MPs at least someone to call and to build bridges. I would recommend everyone to write to their (non sciencey) MP to ask them to do something like this.. and to remind MPs that voters DO value scientific input into policy.

royalsociety.org/grants-schemes-awards/pairing-scheme/parliamentarians/

It’s definitely something for scientists, medics and the prospective Parliamentary candidate selection panels at party Central Offices and constituencies to think on- this kind of widespread idiocy is what happens if you only pick electoral candidates on party loyalty or being telegenic or having the right back story and if you don’t value any other qualities and qualifications.

It contributes to the anti-experts feeling and makes political discourse gullible and vulnerable to all sorts of unhelpful influences. As has exactly happened here.

I am starting to appreciate having the unelected House of Lords more and more because luckily it does at least still have a good stock of scientists, medics and philosophers who DGAF about re-election or being popular in their party and often they also have happen to have their hearts in the right place.

That is lucky for women when you look at what the elected ones are currently doing for women. Sad

One chromosome makes the difference between a penis/clitoris

What does she actually mean with this sentence? That these drugs change sex chromosomes?

Needmoresleep · 15/10/2018 07:44

It sounds like she has been lobbied and has promised support, but has not really understood that there is a difference between sex and gender, so assumes medicine (hormones) will do the trick, and that everyone sits on a spectrum, and that statistics prove that this is vital.

Oddly medic DD (who normally rolls her eyes when I say anything GC) was moaning this weekend that she had ended up having a row in the pub over whether you could change sex. Fellow students were convinced you could. She tried to point out the awkward existence of chromosomes. She thinks she convinced them, but is not sure.

ChattyLion · 15/10/2018 07:45

There’s also this lot though of science-based policy advocates, they seems to scared to take on the trans issue specifically- leave that to the women to sort out eh. senseaboutscience.org

Also I notice that the venerable British Science Association runs a scheme which aims to help anyone put on science event.. Smile www.sciencelive.net

Perhaps we should put on a national series of ‘we need to talk about sex’ events with a scientist or doctor to help squash the many myths that seem to be actively circulating..?

deepwatersolo · 15/10/2018 07:45

One chromosome makes the difference between a penis/clitoris

Waiting for the day when Sarah finds out that humans share 60% of their genes with fruit flies.

ChattyLion · 15/10/2018 07:48

Also it’s the idea that seems very prevalent that ‘sex’ is somehow located in the genitalia. If you make a cosmetic change to those then it’s all fine, you have changed sex. It’s almost as though you don’t have your sex written into every cell of your body isn’t it

GenderApostate · 15/10/2018 08:06

Sarah Champion was the first MP I contacted a couple of years ago, I was utterly dismayed that she was completely TWAW.

I thought that if anyone would get it, she would.

Serfisafleur · 15/10/2018 08:21

It makes you wonder if someone is paying her to say things like this. Who would do it otherwise?

FermatsTheorem · 15/10/2018 08:28

Wow, Champion really is spectacularly, off the scale thick as mince, isn't she?

She's that peculiar form of thick as mince which is unforgivable. Genuine stupidity, down to lack of educational opportunities, isn't a person's fault. But to have had an expensive university education and be that wilfully stupid - there is no excuse.

Redkeyboard · 15/10/2018 08:40

I don’t understand the lack of critical thinking.

It worries me that Sarah Champion also worked with LGBT groups to get mandatory education including of gender identity agreed as part of the curriculum. Given what has been tweeted which is inaccurate and/or doesn’t make sense from a scientific perspective.

Please tell me that those other students weren't medics - or scientists.

Biologicalreality · 15/10/2018 08:45

But I don’t really understand what the point of her saying that is? We know that males are XY, and females are XX, and the rest is due to us being human, but so what? Even if what she said was true, what is her point?

LangCleg · 15/10/2018 08:47

If my kids were still little, I would home educate sooner than allow them to be taught this flat earth shit.

RepealtheGRA · 15/10/2018 08:50

There is a MASSIVE upsurge in Home Ed atm. The pushing of the trans agenda is not the only problem with the education atm, but I do wonder to what extent it is contributing.
