Is this a trans advert for foundation? Don't know what to think. Eradication of women?

Men can wear makeup.

I don't think they are erasing women, more like expanding their market.

DryHeave · 14/10/2018 18:37

I don’t have any issue with them showing any man or woman wearing their products.

If they say that it’s a woman when it’s a man = different story.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 14/10/2018 18:37

TBH I don’t really care about companies hawking their wares to whomever they think will buy it as long as nobody a) claims that putting pigmented creams on your face somehow makes you a women and b) insists I have to wear it.

Luglio · 14/10/2018 18:37

Lol, way to kick the arse out of make up sales. Foundation plastered over razor burn, YACK.

BettyDuMonde · 14/10/2018 18:38

Shay Shay self describes as a ‘gender non conforming drag creature’.

I reckon that qualifies as extending the bandwidth of ‘man’ and I have no objection to Rimmel marketing at men and women.

I have a problem with transwomen being held up as better/more perfect than bogstandard cunty women in adverts but that’s not happening here. This is good. It’s like the Grayson Perry thread earlier.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/10/2018 18:38

Nothing wrong with men wearing make up Confused

Also, I thing ShayShay describes themselves as a non-gender-conforming drag artist, not as a transwoman (although I am aware the former is under the "trans umbrella".

Really not sure how a picture of a man wearing makeup erases women?

userblablabla · 14/10/2018 18:39

Oh for crying out loud. So wearing makeup is now on the list of things trans people can’t do?

dolorsit · 14/10/2018 18:39

No it's make-up marketed at men. It's the next big thing (again)

BettyDuMonde · 14/10/2018 18:41

Martin Kemp briefly appearing on Strictly last night made me come over all peculiar. I reckon it’s as good a time as any for another revivival of chaps-in-slap.

OvaHere · 14/10/2018 18:42

Men can wear make up if they want. Nothing wrong with that.

It's when people pretend that wearing make up makes a man a women that it becomes a problem of sexist stereotypes.

hipsterfun · 14/10/2018 18:43

The lads are welcome to my share, I’ve no use for it.

bluetitsaretits · 14/10/2018 18:45

chaps in slap Grin

Whitetulipofpeace · 14/10/2018 18:46

Maybe if people accepted some men want to wear makeup, and that it's fine to do ss there wouldn't be as much gender confusion.

takemeback · 14/10/2018 18:47

Thanks for clarifying.

takemeback · 14/10/2018 18:47

I suppose I suggested erasing women because this is a male model rather than a woman for what is usually considered a feminine product

Cwenthryth · 14/10/2018 18:48

Marketing make up at men is great. It shouldn’t just be funnelled at pressuring women to conform to a particular beauty standard - it should be a tool for all people to express themselves how they want to be seen, if they want to use it - fab, go for it. Makeup≠woman.

Cwenthryth · 14/10/2018 18:49

Why should makeup be a ‘feminine product’ though? That’s just stereotyping.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 14/10/2018 18:50

No issue with Rimmel marketing anything at men. It’s crappy make up so good luck with that!

I don’t think making money from men erases women. They don’t describe him as a woman in that ad, or even trans.

lexi727 · 14/10/2018 18:50

Men can wear makeup without being trans.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 14/10/2018 18:51

Lots of men wore makeup in the 80's and it was fine then although my mother wasn't keen. I'm sure men and women on tv wear it too. Foundation is not exclusively a female product now that everyone has free access to great skincare.

PineappleSunrise · 14/10/2018 18:52

I am perfectly happy to see men expanding their sense of what is "permitted" in masculinity to allow themselves to wear make up. Why not?

Besides, MAC has been doing very well for over 20 years hiring male make up artists who are extremely good at making themselves look fab-lu-LOUS. (Sorry, we're watching Strictly on catch up in our house at the mo.)

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 14/10/2018 18:53

This. Referring to certain products/activities as “feminine’s” as you have is a huge part of the problem.

Men want to wear make up, go nuts. Girls want to pay rugby go for it. Adverts showing women running around a rugby field don’t erase men. If everyone accepted that there aren’t feminine things to enjoy and masculine then there would be a lot less discussion needed about changing sex

FloralBunting · 14/10/2018 18:53

Nope. Don't be daft. Man who wears make up is, shockingly, still a man. His maleness isn't affected in the slightest.

I am not erased by a man doing stereotypically female things. If Rimmel was suggesting that the man in the picture was in fact a woman because he was wearing make up, because 'make up is for women', then I'd have an issue perhaps.

But it's not. So I don't.

numptynuts · 14/10/2018 18:54

Nah no issue with that at all.

DancingDakini · 14/10/2018 18:54

Lol a gender non conforming person wearing makeup it totally erasing women. Must stop it immediately.
