Wikipedia articles being edited to be less GC and more transinclusive

Worrying. It's being claimed on Twitter that a Wikipedia editor who was sympathetic to the GC position has been banned and a lot of examples of new edits are given. Not sure what we can do about this. Any ideas?

Here's the Twitter thread. twitter.com/socjuswiz/status/1051090625448353792

Can’t they just be edited by anyone?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/10/2018 17:39

They can. So if there are a lot of TRA editors they can change it back faster than it can be corrected.

I think some topics can be, but others are 'locked to prevent vandalism'. I don't know who gets to decide who is allowed to edit such topics.

Blackoutblinds · 13/10/2018 17:49

Yeah Errol I just googled and saw that. Some pages get locked. I don’t know if those pages are like that though.

I suppose the answer is if you see something to change it but you’d need to know what it was to start with.

Sorry I’m no help.

I agree this is worrying. A totally false picture being painted. Wolf was convicted of the assault on Maria McLachlan. It's no longer an "allegation". So blatantly biased.

Also agree Wikipedia editors wouldn't listen to outsiders.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 16/10/2018 09:21

The only way to go about this is to appeal to the community stalwarts on the talk pages - if people are using alleged when it's an actual conviction, Wikipedia is demonstrably false. They don't want Wiki to get a reputation as biased and unreliable. Getting pages locked would probably be a good thing.

Note the screenshots of TRA including natacha kennedy conspiring to do this

Too late. Not sure what rules are required for topic research in UK but here in OZ, at least for school assignments, Wiki is not acceptable as a valid source. In my boys experience this has been encouraged since upper primary. Not acceptable at all once commenced High School.

Just OT I love your user name my DS2 is obsessed with Jaffa Cakes. Unfortunately means a trip to Aldi which isn't convenient for my grocery shopping, so a rare treat.

Danaquestionseverything · 16/10/2018 10:24

Also just to encourage a bit of hope. I know it's really demoralising to witness how much tech influence the TRA's have. Hold strong sisters. Don't forget some of us have born Gen Z, they don't buy this bullshit. They are the first generation to fully grow up with internet access. Their skills will surpass previous generations.

Here's a funny (but true) strory. DS2 when in kindergarten, if the children arrived early enough, were allowed to play on the classroom computers. These were generally set to learning programs eg A=Apple type of stuff. The Kindy teacher pulled me aside while helping to set up to watch. My son went and accessed google and was playing a skateboard game instead. The kids sitting near him said "How did you get that?" He gave them verbal instructions but they didn't understand so he went to each child's computer and showed them how to do it. He learned his skills watching DS1 , who incidentally would be sometimes requested to leave his class, to assist any teacher who was having difficulty with classroom computers. Have faith.

But generation Z won't be GC, they'll be brainwashed.

Danaquestionseverything · 16/10/2018 12:21

Not necessarily. My boys are both teenagers and scoff at the ideology of the trans movement. Totally accepting of homosexuality just know that biologically people can't change sex.

At the end of the day if you send your child off to school and don't discuss what they're learning, I'm sorry but you as parent have a chance to sit down, discuss and offer an alternative opinion. I'm not judging parents whose kids are caught up in this nightmare. The internet is a powerful force.

BTW not all schools have to promote this ideology (at least not yet) my little atheists attend a Catholic school.

Are the little ones in kindy etc still Gen Z? If mine were that young I'd be sourcing books showing kids breaking gender roles and read them regularly as a bedtime story. That will actually have a greater influence than some story shared in a classroom of fidgety kids. This is how mums will win this.

hellandhairnets · 16/10/2018 14:19

I seem to recall that, when she wasn't orchestrating her campaign to get GC female academics sacked, the fragrant Natacha Kennedy was also organising something bout putting the trans-centring feminists at the top of feminist history in Wikipedia? Something like that.

I honestly can't see how people aren't seeing all that's going on for what it is. It's madness. I've just seen someone banned from elsewhere online for transphobia on the grounds of quoting the law re: single sex spaces as it stands. (In this case orchestrated by yet another handmaiden, but I believe an older one this time. On the say-so of a TRA who threw their toys out of the pram at the mere mention of facts.)

It's driving me to despair.
