Amazon and Google employees hostile to Mumsnet?

Was going to post this last week, but got swamped in other issues.

Not sure where to take this. Simply tweeting "Google, please offer reassurances" doesn't seem enough. I'd like reassurance that Amazon/Google employees will be reminded of their duty of impartiality at their next "All Hands" meetings.

I'm pretty sure that while Google / Amazon may have a slightly higher percentage of woke people than the population average they will still be a minority.

KatVonGulag · 13/10/2018 16:04

If they are thinking about this at all, it'll be along the lines of:

Will the woke youngsters stop using us (Amazon or Google) for advertising on mumsnet.
Answer: lol of cause not

They have nothing to lose advertising here.
Plus, hopefully the fuss over Ocado will be noted. It shows we can play the boycott game too.

My concern is that these people - who are developers - have access to, and the ability to modify, a great deal of factors around the security of content providers on the internet.

P.S. For those who are not aware, Amazon isn't just a shop: Amazon Web Services is a leading supplier of industrial scale data storage for e-commerce and other web sites.

The fact that any developer group at these organisations is discussing internet content AS A GROUP is extremely disturbing.

This would be illegal they would lose their jobs.

One would hope that it's detectable and attributable.

Most of all I would be seeking for google/amazon to remind developers in an open forum like a team meeting - of their commitments and contractual obligations and to set any political agenda's aside.

Google / AWS host a globally diverse content base and it is central to their business that they exercise the broadest of tolerances for what that content is.

QuietContraryMary · 13/10/2018 20:44

I do like a good tin foil hat tread. I'm sure apple as lots of Lgbt people too.

Oh it's Bespin. Hello. Do you mean like the early Aimee Challenor threads? I remember the "Nothing to see here, move on" comment before the whole thing kicked off.

Or that "silly" idea there were organised attempts to edit wikipedia to write women and feminists out of the picture? Something that's now known to be true.

Now that is a weird thing to say. If there's no merit in this, just ignore it, it's a fragment for future reference. Often these thing look insignificant - until much later.

It's just one of tens of thousands of insignificant transpeople on Twitter making hollow threats. We can't really document them all.
