I'm thinking Owl should stick to Owl's day job (is there one?)

Fox and Owl, 'This is what Non-Binary Looks Like'

TheCbeebiesYellowBlobs · 13/10/2018 14:22

"This is what navel-gazing looks like"

LizzieSiddal · 13/10/2018 14:24

The quality of acting/script/direction reminded me of my Dd and her friends’ films, when they were in Y6 😂.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 13/10/2018 14:25

This is what Non-Binary Looks Like

Looks a lot like a trans man and woman doesn't it?

LizzieSiddal · 13/10/2018 14:27

This “non binary” stuff, I’m very confused. Isn’t it just “people”?

R0wantrees · 13/10/2018 14:38

The non-binary identity and push for rights associated with this is serious.
If Non-binary identity is legislated then anyone can access anything and everything if they identify as non-binary since it means both neither sex and both sexes.

boatyardblues · 13/10/2018 14:42

Isn't this Stalinism, I'm not massively read on Stalin but my basic knowledge draws comparisons?

I haven’t watched yet, but Owl’s film sounds like the Home Bargain version of The Lives of Others. Stalinist indeed.

ShotsFired · 13/10/2018 15:13

I once used to "accidentally" text a crush I had, as if I'd mistakenly included him on some (fake) exciting weekend plans and not realised.

Looking back, I properly cringe when I think how naff it was, and how glad I was that he never replied or mentioned these "slips" of my texting fingers.

That's how this feels. I am cringing for their future selves when they look back on this whole episode in their lives.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 13/10/2018 15:56

I think the cat was there because women like cats and men like dogs.

True fact.

R0wantrees · 13/10/2018 16:16

I've been reading quite a lot about the 'cat thing' its not always good reading.

KeiTeNgeNge · 13/10/2018 22:17

What is the cat thing?

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/10/2018 22:54

Husband is reading a book about Salem witch trials. Apparently cats were viewed with suspicion because they are independent, unpredictable, can't be controlled, come and go as they please and don't do as they are told. They were animals with a mind of their own.

KeiTeNgeNge · 13/10/2018 23:00

So, they link to trans....? It was thinking of a more vulgar link myself Grin

boatyardblues · 13/10/2018 23:00

I’m #teamcat. Burn me at the stake if you have to. I ain’t for turning.

2rebecca · 13/10/2018 23:03

It looked like 2 transwomen having a tiff over a cat and eavesdropping on an unclear phone conversation with a random drunk bloke in the middle. If the bloke is a transmen he's the only one who passes

LemonJello · 13/10/2018 23:03

Action!

So apparently Owl made a film
KatVonGulag · 13/10/2018 23:07

Has anyone worked out why two transwomen are rowing yet?

FloralBunting · 13/10/2018 23:08

I'm telling you, Van Damme as the cat sitter. But I think there should be a lobster in there too. Because you really should get emojis into film as much as possible. [Painty Nails] [Crown] [That Holding An Invisible Tray At Head Height Sass Pose]

FloralBunting · 13/10/2018 23:09

I missed the rowing. But transwomen are keen on women's sports, so we could work it in.

NotANotMan · 13/10/2018 23:11

The bloke is a transman called Lewis hancox. Lewis doesn't really pass if you see more of Lewis.
That film was perplexingly odd. I genuinely don't understand the point they were making.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 13/10/2018 23:43

Gosh, that was like the cast of Crossroads decided to cross dress and act even more badly than usual.

What's it up for? The Acorn Antiques homage prize?

Datun · 13/10/2018 23:53

It takes a certain weird self obsession to make a fictional film, that you write yourself, where you make the characters go through the pantomime of believing you're the opposite sex.

It's like the unpopular kid making a film where everyone in the class is clamouring to come to their birthday party.

SadieLancaster · 13/10/2018 23:55

I’m endlessly baffled at how TW always seem to think they pass as women. They never, ever do. Not even a bit.

CottonTailRabbit · 14/10/2018 00:10

Was this an Owl fantasy? You know one where Owl passes so well as a woman that even her older female t*rf neighbour doesn't realise Owl was a man, despite spying on Owl over the wall and fence all the time. Owl doesn't mind the stalking and lets neighbour catsit. Obviously needs to spend more time on AIBU does Owl.

Anyway, in Owl's fantasy, neighbour is astonished to discover Owl is not XX when confronted by Owl about transphobia. Of course there is no chance of the trans topic coming up in conversation to enable this super-validating exchange because Owl totally passes so plot device needed.

Owl has trans friends round for a picnic, they don't pass like Owl does, Owl transes better than them you see. Stalker neighbour peers over the wall as always and sees the trans people who aren't as good at trans as Owl. Later the neighbour has a little moan on the phone about how trans people never pass. She has this phone call while outside in the garden right by the fence but doesn't see Owl because of the washing. Don't we all hang our sheets up to dry on the washing line right along the boundary fence with our neighbours? Owl confronts and is validated.

Owl reflects on how she is definitely a real woman because a transman once got drunk and pushed her over, in the style you sometimes see in anti-DV videos. Transman is validated too. He is so big and strong he can push Owl to the ground and scare Owl. He looks big by being right by the camera and Owl looks smaller on the ground far away. Owl has seen Father Ted and the talk about the cows you see.

TLDR: Adrian Mole made a video.

PersonaNonGarter · 14/10/2018 00:12

I mean, if that’s the quality of the final cut, what do you think they left out? The Royston Vasey bake sale scene?
