God just watched Jeremy Vine and all I can say is bring back Matthew Wright. The guy's a complete idiot. And who is that really stupid simpering gay guy? Why have they got him on? Can't we just have some panelists with some brains instead of getting people on because of what they look like as I presume that's the only reason he's on there.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 12/10/2018 10:39

Karen White may single handedly blow open this debate
Well, you’d think but the NATALT trope is already well in use, in that linked Twitter feed for instance.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/10/2018 10:42

I am absolutely seething that the first man on the panel to speak referred to white as an 'alleged rapist'.
He was found guilty. He was given a life sentence. How hard is it to admit that some men ACTUALLY RAPE?

TerfedOff · 12/10/2018 12:09

It's clear that there is absolutely nothing that could happen now that would shock these people. They know full well what this type of person is like and yet they still make excuses for them.

Lottapianos · 12/10/2018 12:26

JHB has many shortcomings but she completely gets this issue and isn't afraid to shout about it. Good for her. So glad I missed the Jeremy Vine nonsense, he's so awful

LizzieSiddal · 12/10/2018 12:34

To be fair to Jeremy he has retweeted 2 tweets from FPFW.

“1) Prison rules must be revised in light of this case. Serious consideration must be given to a third space option so everyone. Sex separation is a fundamental safeguarding tool that women rely on for safety. Risk assessments are never foolproof as this case highlights.”

“2) These prison rules were devised in 2016 with transgender interest groups acting as external advisers. No one advocating for female offenders was included. Women are stakeholders in this and their interests must be championed too, not demonised.“

RiverTam · 12/10/2018 12:36

Countess who was it said 'alleged rapist'? Fucking unbelievable.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/10/2018 12:39

I don't know his name. Oldish grey haired white guy, first one on Jeremy Vine's panel to speak.

RiverTam · 12/10/2018 12:44

thanks - I want to find out what exactly that man thinks a man has to do to be an actual rapist, if being found guilty and sentenced to life isn't enough.

RiverTam · 12/10/2018 12:46

Jeremy Thompson, perhaps?

pennydrew · 12/10/2018 12:57

Someone mentioned that men aren’t comfortable with all this either. Which I know to be true because I’ve asked- my husband does not want to get changed with transmen at all. I want to hear more of this from men. Not just supporting women, but also can we hear how they feel in mixed sex changing rooms and toilets?

arranfan · 12/10/2018 13:01

Which I know to be true because I’ve asked- my husband does not want to get changed with transmen at all.

Neither does my DH. That said, it's more because he has a feeling of not imposing himself, than the apprehension vv of women feeling that someone who might not be acting in good faith is goading/staking a territorial claim/hoping to be challenged in order to bring harassment charges/embodies a physical threat...

RiverTam · 12/10/2018 13:02

I've told this before but worth repeating:

I was once at the theatre with DD and DH, predominantly female audience. Huge queue for the ladies so I sent DH into the gents to see if it was empty and had cubicles (performance due to start v soon). It was and there were so me and DD nipped in, and I realised there was another woman and child in the other cubicle.

When we came out there was quite a queue of women and children inside the gents' for these two cubicles. There was also an elderly chap at the urinals. And it was clear from his body language that he was absolutely frozen. He must have come in for a piss and all these women came in after he'd started and now he didn't know what to do.

Now, that was a benign situation caused, of course, by the fact that venues never provide enough women's loos. But I reckon in all this talk about unisex loos and what have you that no-one cares about our senior citizens of either sex.

WokerThanWoke · 12/10/2018 13:14

Yes RiverTam. I was once helping a male relative in the men's changing room at M&S, I think it was (so both men's and women's changing rooms). I was stood outside one of the cubicles and a bloke came in, he thought it was the women's and I explained what I was doing but he was clearly uncomfortable. Fortunately we were about to leave but if not he was going to turn and go out again. I didn't anything of it at the time, but now it makes me think.

pennydrew · 12/10/2018 13:17

NOBODY ever cares about the elderly. My 71 year old Mum, an abuse survivor, would be horrified if she had to be exposed to males in this way.

PersonWithAVulva · 12/10/2018 15:20

Which I know to be true because I’ve asked- my husband does not want to get changed with transmen at all.

I asked some utter MRA bloke that I know, and his response was that 'false accusations' would increase on the back of female people in male changing rooms and such. Seems even the MRA dickheads have an angle to be against selfID.

(Disclaimer, said dickhead MRA I barely speak to, and this resulted in a huge argument between him and DH about how rare false accusations are mind..I tend to deal with him by eyerolling now as he will never change his views. But that was his immediate thought.)
