I’ve not always agreed with him on everything but interesting to see the side he has taken.

Smile cheers for supporting the fabulous Janice Turner, Giles!

hipsterfun · 11/10/2018 09:22

He’s still an arse.

thatdamnwoman · 11/10/2018 09:26

Did no one else notice the strategic 'Metaphorically' in his tweet. He's still an arse.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/10/2018 09:34

The irony of Joss Prior's comment though Shock

MinecraftHolmes · 11/10/2018 09:37

Interesting that the person in the replies who said "I hope you're not transphobic" accepts his response that he isn't transphobic, and that he's taking issue with the piss-take of people trying to change the meaning of words. Would they have accepted a similar response re: the billboard?

Knicknackpaddyflak · 11/10/2018 09:39

And within seconds the reproachful little 'I hope you're not transphobic Giles' post appears - because standing up for women in any way obviously points to that and only that. Standing up for women, mentioning women, in fact doing anything but shouting Down With Women! equals transphobia.

and Giles obediently trots back with 'of course not!' and minimises frantically.

Yes, he's an arse.

nauticant · 11/10/2018 09:41

Good. But he's still an arse.

PleasingFungusBeetle · 11/10/2018 09:48

I think that the "metaphorically" just means that he isn't literally standing behind her!

From memory I think that he has written something vaguely gender critical before. Other than that I don't know much about the guy, so maybe he's an arse on other things, but I think that this is good. The fact that he starts to get jumpy when the "transphobe!" pile-on starts is totally understandable

PleasingFungusBeetle · 11/10/2018 09:52

Sorry that was unclear - I mean, that he isn't physically standing behind her

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2018 09:53

I didn't read Giles response re not being transphobic as 'jumpy' ... he isn't transphobic, and in the same tweet says Janice makes good points with humour so presumably doesn't think she is either.

Joss seems to be one of those people with remarkably little ability to see themselves as others see them. The only discernible purpose of that tweet is to say 'look at meeee'.

Bezalelle · 11/10/2018 10:14

It feels like McCarthyism, but with "transphobic" instead of "Communist".

Chilling.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 11/10/2018 10:29

I think that the "metaphorically" just means that he isn't literally standing behind her!

Exactly

There is nothing suspect in it

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 11/10/2018 10:31

Yes i agree with errol

He is just saying he isn't transphobic and thats fair enough

I take the point about minimising though

Whwhywhy · 11/10/2018 10:36

‘Kin’ hell - this adds to my wrong side of history worry. Why am I on team Giles?

It’s like when I bought that nhs single and found piers Morgan was all over it (figuratively). (That’s the word you were looking for Giles by the way).

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2018 10:48

You're on Team Giles in this instance because he's on Team Janice. It's him joining the 'right side' of - well, too early to say on history, but literacy, biology etc.

History is an as-yet unwritten book, but we've got the core curriculum covered.

English - check
Science - check
Maths (in particular the stats option) - check

And
Critical thinking - check
PSHE - check
PE (esp for girls) - check

Hm, I guess the TRAs currently own 'media studies' but we're catching up.

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2018 10:52

Don't say the name too many times or we'll get a visit. Like Candyman.

thatdamnwoman · 11/10/2018 11:03

Pleasing, yes, you're right. It was first thing in the morning and I read it as a qualification of his position (not his physical position). Sorry.

Coffee first, brain on. Must remember.

LangCleg · 11/10/2018 11:05

Don't say the name too many times or we'll get a visit. Like Candyman.

God, yes, it's exactly like that.

horizonglimmer · 12/10/2018 18:38

"There is also nothing angry about applauding a friend and a feminist who is writing about the current onslaught on womanhood."

He says this later. Doesn't sound like back peddling to me.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/10/2018 20:00

He’s still an arse. True.

I really liked this comment in the thread, so thought I'd chuck it here:

I didn't have to be gay to take to the streets over clause 28, I don't have to be black to take to the streets in opposition to the EDL. We don't have to be women to want to protect women's rights under the Equalities Act from men.
