Sex selection and transphobia

From an article in the Times about sex selection Preimplantation genetic diagnosis is a technique in which doctors remove cells from an embryo created in the lab to check their X and Y chromosomes. Girls have XX chromosomes and boys XY

Isn't this transphobic?

This is a serious question. How does biological sex selection happen if we don't agree that sex is binary?

According to the Rabbi on R4 this morning, it is possible that Adam and Eve were non-binary, but still managed to procreate the human race....

Yeah...the rabbi was talking shite. As an atheist, I believe all faith leaders talk a lot of shite, however.

Yeah. Anyone who believes in sky fairies is not a reliable source of scientific information.

I am afraid, OP, that this is a question to bring up with the "biological sex is a social construct" people, and all the trans activists spouting rhetoric about the "sex spectrum" or that we cannot define male/female biologically. Perhaps discuss it with Dr Helen Webberley who can't tell you what "sex" really means.
You're right though. Insinuating that sex-selection, femicide, and sexism exist because of discrimination against the female SEX (not gender), is technically transphobic now.

Really? Did the Rabbi actually say that? If you state on national radio that Adam and Eve actually existed then all this crap about binary, non binary, Heinz' allsorts of genders becomes understandable because it means being able to believe 101 impossible things before breakfast.

On a different note (but what I thought this thread was about) given that some parents want to be able to choose the sex of their baby, and given that some parents experience severe "gender disappointment" I wonder what impact that has on the transing of children. ? Do some parents must see what they want to see, and mould their child into what they want their child to be?

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 09/10/2018 13:25

Well, if the change to the GRA goes through and self-identification becomes law, there will be no more "gender disappointment". You just choose which gender you want your new baby to be and hey presto! Who cares if the infant has a penis and testicles and you wanted a girl? You've now got a daughter! Congratulations!
