Well done Shelter - let's hope the rest follow

I've just been on the Shelter website and their housing advice section now has just one use of gender instead of sex. Good for them for sorting it - can't have been easy given their connections.

Well done to all the people who contacted them. Let's hope the tide is turning.

Good!

They deserve praise for listening and reacting.

They should never have misquoted such important housing law.

It's a serious issue.

I hope they are looking into how it occurred.

Polly Neate who's the chief exec of Shelter used to head up women's aid, so if anyone was going to get it, it would be her

but yes. how the hell did it happen?

R0wantrees · 05/10/2018 23:13

Interestingly Ruth Hunt is also a Trustee.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/10/2018 23:36

that is interesting

doesn't being head of stonewall keep her busy?

why the heck do these people all have half a dozen jobs?

Serfisafleur · 05/10/2018 23:41

Fantastic although the one remaining use of "gender" instead of sex, I'm curios to know where it is...

MipMipMip · 06/10/2018 00:48

It was to do with landlords harassing tenants.

That's not likely to be part of the Housing Act.
I wonder if they are using it with reference to the Equalities Act 2010 though in which case it should be sex and gender reassignment (as 2 of the 9 protected characeristics)

Buggerbrexit · 06/10/2018 01:31

A trustee isn’t a paid position- it actually makes total sense for other charity professionals to be on other boards and is encouraged.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/10/2018 02:43

Well done, Shelter

BettyFloop · 06/10/2018 03:04

Polly is a woman's woman.
She'll do her best for us (within the confines of her job description, obvs) - met her...good vibes...fingers firmly crossed.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 06/10/2018 06:46

Very interesting.
I wonder what Ruth Hunt will say now?

Tanith · 06/10/2018 13:13

The reason they all have half a dozen jobs, mostly voluntary or advisory, is because of the difficulty in getting anyone to do them.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/10/2018 13:25

Good Smile

parklives · 06/10/2018 13:26

Good

Indeed. Though I think we all know how it occured if we are honest. In much the same way the council Ann Sinott worked for 'accidentally' changed the wording from sex to gender. All hush hush behind the scenes work by people who give not a shite about women.

R0wantrees · 06/10/2018 16:29

The most serious implications would be for all those vulnerably housed especially children.
