My friend just posted this on Facebook this morning. She isn't on MN so I have her permission to share. She would really like more people, especially people with ASD or who have children with ASD, to write to NAS thanking them for their willingness to listen and their agreement that Mermaids is not reputable.

This is really great news so please can we keep this bumped and shared. Thank you.

If posters on the SEN board would like to share that would also be great (if appropriate).

Dear XXXX ,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Gender and autism page on our website.

I’m writing to let you know that I’ve raised your concerns regarding Mermaids UK, one of the organisations we link to on our Gender and autism page, with a number of teams within the National Autistic Society. In light of the concerns raised in your message, and of other feedback that we have received, we have decided to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website, while we take the time to consult with relevant professionals and to reconsider which organisations we wish to place links to on our website.

As such, our Web Team are working to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website as soon as possible. Please do be aware, however, that, as we are currently in the process of updating our website to reflect our new branding and organisational identity, it may take a few days for this to be actioned.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and I hope that you are satisfied with the actions we are taking in light of the concerns that you have raised.

Kind regards,

National Autistic Society

This is very heartening. Trangender Trend who are pushing back on the trans ideology have done a critique of all of the Trans Activists' schools 'resources' , the most recent one to be dissected being Stonewall's which was written by GIRES..
www.transgendertrend.com/back-to-school-with-stonewall/
and in it Stephanie Davies Arai succinctly says"Stonewall’s largely male trans advisory group should also be scrutinised (the inclusion of Aimee Challenor alone raises concerns) and we need to ask who benefits from school policies which erase the distinction between the sexes and make it impossible for girls to object to male people in their private spaces. In Stonewall’s guidance, girls’ rights as a sex are erased completely and girls are denied the right to their own boundaries, privacy and safety."

Let's abuse autistic people. Cos that ends well.

Shall we have a conversation about the suicide rate?

No cos that would be fucking irresponsible...

Oh dear. Well I was wondering if even posting it here was a good idea because the creeps lurk and share our every move there... the main thing was they removed the links, were already doing the right thing. We need to think carefully before sharing stuff like this again.

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2018 17:44

Social media can either be shouting into a void of nothingness or broadcasting to the entire world. Except you don't know which it is, when you put up a message. So always assume the latter!

GulagsMyArse · 04/10/2018 17:46

Yrevas many children on the autistic spectrum are declaring themselves transgender. I'm not sure go the numbers, but its a high percentage. There is a lot of concern that they are very vulnerable around this issue.

the website www.transgendertrend.com is a good resource to find out more.

feministcactus · 04/10/2018 17:49

Much use of the word 'capitulation' in this thread. Why is it capitulation if the NAS decide to reinstate the link, rather than it being a considered decision? The level of condescension towards those who take a different view on here is staggering...

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2018 17:50

Penny drew is organisations start to see others go 'this is bollocks' it'll encourage others to do the same.

Not talking is the problem.

And whilst I share your concern I do believe the more people talk the more likely the house of cards will collapse.

It does not reflect what people think in reality: the public supports trans rights, but they also support women's rights. They support a trans identity but they also do not believe you can change sex. Whilst they want trans people to be safe they also want women to be able to assert their own boundaries.

Misrepresenting what the public believe does not change this. You can not create an alternative reality. You can only attempt to suppress reality.

People do not like that.

pennydrew · 04/10/2018 17:51

Keep in mind, NAS always get a bit of grief on social media, people against neuro diversity or for it etc lots of criticisms, that they don’t tend to confront online. Maybe they’ll be stronger than we usually see. I hope their focus remains on what’s best for autistic people 🙏🏻

lunarain · 04/10/2018 17:51

If it does end up going viral it could be a good thing. The relentless targetting of autistic groups and vulnerable autistic people by trans activists is a conversation that needs to be brought into the public eye. There is too much silence around this issue. As an autistic abuse survivor I was terrified when I met up with what I thought were autistic women from the internet and it turned out to be a man in womens clothing

SporadicSpartacus · 04/10/2018 17:52

While it looked like an email just intended for the recipient and probably not intended as a policy statement, the writer would know that anything he sends out under his work email address to an outside individual/company could be taken as such or shared beyond its original intended audience. I'm sure he had that in mind when he wrote it - so please don't feel too bad, luna.

Hopefully this will be the start of the merscales falling from everyone else's eyes too.

pennydrew · 04/10/2018 17:55

lunarain I’m sorry that happened to you.

lunarain · 04/10/2018 17:59

yes. If he wanted it kept confidential he could have asked me to do so in his response and he didnt so I havent done anything wrong. I do feel a little bad though as I dont want him to be targetted by trans activists. In some ways it is a win win though because trans activists either have to play nice and make out to be concerned about the dangers of transgenderism or show themselves up to be violent misogynists. They will have to tread very carefully

lunarain · 04/10/2018 18:00

I was terrified I got ptsd symptoms for weeks afterwards

pennydrew · 04/10/2018 18:02

How awful for you.

Well if they bully autistic people that will not go well for them

GColdtimer · 04/10/2018 18:15

Luna it's my fault. I forgot to remove the details of the sender. MN edited it really quickly but it was obviously out there. Not your fault. To be fair NAS were going to get a whole load of crap thrown at them anyway.

They will see what it's like to be in the receiving end of it. We need to give them as much support as we can.

Yrevas · 04/10/2018 18:41

I don’t mean to be devils advocate as I don’t know much about it - but what if there is a link between autism and transgender? Wouldn’t the link be useful? Please don’t hate me. X

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2018 18:45

Yrevas, we don't know. There seems to be a correlation. But it's unexplained. That's part of the point.

lunarain · 04/10/2018 18:48

The link is that autistic people are being targetted by trans activists on account of us not conforming to gender, Instead of us being allowed to just be ourselves. i.e. a female who doesnt like make up and dresses we are being told we have male brains and are really the opposite sex. Its massively oppressive. To say there is a link between autism and transgenderism is to validate transgenderism as a real thing. i,e, that if i dont conform to oppressive gender stereotypes I must really be a man. Autistic people are less susceptible to pressure to follow social norms such as gender stereotypes. Thats it. There is nothing wrong with us. No it isnt helpful to link autistic people not conforming to stereotypes to them really being the opposite sex. This is a good thing about autistics not something that needs hormones and surgery

lunarain · 04/10/2018 18:50

No it isnt unexplained. It is very easily explained. Trans activists have caught onto the fact that autistic people along with people like sportswomen and lesbians are gender non conforming and have specifically targetted autistic groups online to prey on young vulnerable people and brainwash them into trans ideology

lunarain · 04/10/2018 18:51

As an autistic woman I have never seen groups more heavily policed by the trans movement than autistic groups. They are targetted even more than lesbians

pennydrew · 04/10/2018 18:53

lunarain Yes ! And my teenage daughter and her autistic friends told me this exactly. They are sick of the focus on them, the social media BS and the trans activists trying to latch onto autism awareness.

Someone had screenshots of TRA MB on Twitter asking teens to DM.
