We've been discussing the colours and a bit about suffragists and suffragettes, of course, so I thought I'd flag this up.

I'm sorry I can't make a link, but it's from FutureLearn and was created as part of the centenary celebrations. It ran for the first time in the spring and is being repeated in November. It's a very good intro and overview of UK women's history from 1860 to date. FWR is so erudite - and modest about it - I don't want to teach anyone to suck eggs Grin but I thought it might be of interest.

I ran out of time a bit before, so I've signed up again - it would be lovely to see other FWRers there.

(Disclaimer - I've no connections with the course etc.)

thanks, I will def look at that.

my school didn't even cover women's suffrage!

silentcrow · 04/10/2018 11:28

Thanks for that! Hopefully a few of us will sign up and we can have a thread here when it starts in November.

arranfan · 11/11/2018 15:40

So pleased you posted this as I was trying to remember the name the other day so that I could locate it!

IAmNotInvisible · 11/11/2018 16:05

Thanks for the reminder Concrete have signed up. I feel woefully ignorant on the subject so looking forward to the course.

concretesieve · 11/11/2018 20:51

How’s everyone finding it? I’m only a few videos in but I found that quote from Florence Nightingale’s Cassandra really interesting.

ABitCrapper · 16/11/2018 08:23

I'm finding it quite difficult to do with a toddler around who never seems to sleep!
Actual course content is fairly interesting so far, but I wouldn't say I've learned anything new yet.

arranfan · 16/11/2018 11:23

Dropping in a link to the full Cassandra essay by Florence Nightingale as it's a barnstormer to read:

arranfan · 17/11/2018 22:47

Just to say that some of the interviews are disappointingly content-free or overly faux-naif but some of the supplementary materials are decent and I like the reminders about historical reformers like Josephine Butler tho' it's wretched to see how many of the social evils she highlighted are still with us (e.g., prostitution, trafficking).

arranfan · 20/11/2018 14:42

Week 2 is starting to be a bit meatier but I feel that they've bowdlerised some of the content that would be relevant.

concretesieve · 20/11/2018 18:33

Hello Smile Nice to see some feedback. I'm sorry if some FWRers are a bit disappointed - on reflection, I think I should have emphasised more that it's a fairly basic course.

arran do you have any recommendations at all for the bits you think they've missed? I've accumulated a few books over the years, but my reading has been pretty piecemeal.
