Hoax papers lampoon 'grievance studies'

There's an article in the Times today, and an editorial, about some hoax papers submitted and accepted to journals in the 'gender studies' type of field - or as the 'researchers' term it, 'grievance studies'. I'll try to post sharetokens in the next post (as they may not work in the OP) - read and weep with laughter or sadness at the damage done by the subversion of academia (and I don't mean by the hoaxers).

@R0wantrees - I hope you don't mind me pinging you but this story - which I think is quite important as it exposes part of the rot behind the rise of transgenderism - is liable to get lost amidst everything else that's going on and I thought you might want to add it to your 'database' of links.

This sort of stuff has happened before in academia (Sokal hoax), and is really about questioning low standards of scholarship/overuse of jargon. Of course these hoaxes are then used by some right-wingers to make a political point, without taking on board the scholarly concerns.

Make of it what you will but it's interesting that some gender studies academics are now rushing to blame 'gender critical feminists' and transphobia for this. Bit obsessed, no?

But what I will say is that some peer reviewers and editors for the journals that were targeted seem to have no moral compass whatsoever. (Students in chains?!?) Embarrassing and damaging for all academics.

Embarrassing and damaging for all academics.

I was very glad that the editorial highlighted the contrast with scientific research and publication.

Some good discussion under that twitter link.
