It automatically capitalises Male. But not female.

AIBU to wonder what that’s all about?

I thought it was only my autocorrect that does that! Shock, was complaining to DH about it a few days ago.

Serfisafleur · 03/10/2018 23:21

A female bird a male bird

nope not mine

OwThatsGottaHurt · 03/10/2018 23:24

Mine doesn't. Maybe you capitalised it once and that is now in its memory?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/10/2018 23:25

Mine does it as well. I've no idea why. It does sometimes do female as well (though not that time). I feel I should be able to train it by repeatedly correcting it to male, but it seems unwilling to learn.

So...male male male male male .... ooh, I only had to correct the first two of those.
Again male male male ....just the first one that time
And male male ...hmph, still wanted to capitalise the first one.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/10/2018 23:27

This is using the app on an iPad, probably the sexism is platform dependent.
Let's try again male male male ...still wanted to capitalise the first one.

moredoll · 03/10/2018 23:29

Hello male female male. Wanted to capitalise the first male.

EBearhug · 03/10/2018 23:30

Mine usually makes me wonder if it's on drugs or ever seen a new English dictionary...

So - male - no autocorrect; and female - also no autocorrect.

SodTheBloodyLotOfThem · 03/10/2018 23:31

Maybe it means Malé, capital of the Maldives?

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 03/10/2018 23:35

Mine does the same too and it drives me mad.

Maursh · 03/10/2018 23:43

Because.....
Male is the capital of Maldives...... and proper nouns are capitalised Smile

FermatsTheorem · 03/10/2018 23:59

Let's see, within the context of a sentence, let me type male and female. Nope, okay here.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2018 00:04

If it meant Malé then it should be putting the accent on, shouldn't it?

Maursh · 04/10/2018 00:06

Male isnt always written with an accent (the airport for example when booking flights)

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2018 00:08

In the context of a sentence male and ...
Oh... that's interesting. I entered 'male' and it 'corrected' it to Male but as soon as I typed the and it put it back to lowercase. And then it was a devil of a job to get it with lowercase m in quotes. Weird.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2018 00:17

It's a bloody pain. If I promise this smartarse machine that if I ever need to write about the capital of the Maldives I will capitalise it and accent it - Malé - will it please just accept that male vastly more often refers to sex, XY?

HopeGarden · 04/10/2018 11:30

Male is the capital of Maldives...... and proper nouns are capitalised

Nice is a city in France and yet my autocorrect doesn’t automatically capitalise nice when I use the word nice in a sentence.

Mine replaced menstruate with penetrate once.
