Trans people doing non trans related stuff

Just watched Chelsea Manning being interviewed.
I know she is an activist and doubtless holds views different to mine but it is so good to see a trans person in the public eye primarily for something that isn’t just about their identity.

Yes as it should be. The obsession with identity that prevails is eclipsing just getting on and doing stuff - seems to send a wonky message to teens.

I thought exactly the same whilst watching her, how very refreshing that the conversation was not at all about her identity or the validation thereof

yes - I think it was good for me too, to be honest.

Be good if certain people with specific roles to represent large sectors actually carried out that role instead of using the position for self-aggrandisement and pushing their own, single issue.

The only transwomen I currently know in real life are a minicab driver and a second-hand furniture dealer. They just get on with their lives and do their own thing. Both seem a lot happier and more contented than the activists we see in the media.

I did work with an activist type briefly. Utter nightmare, and was obviously really unhappy with their lot in life and uncomfortable in their own skin.

that had nothing to do with how they identify, other than as a human being with ethics

Absolutely, this. One of my best friends is a trans man. It’s possibly the least interesting thing about him and you’d never know this about him unless he told you because he too busy being an awesome, secure and self confident person and getting on with his life.
