TAKING THE PISS A MILLION TIMES OVER

PipGoesPop · 01/10/2018 16:46

Watched a bit more. Is pipi doing this to highlight how fucking RIDICULOUS this situation is?

Fucking BEYOND angry Angry

VodkaRevelation · 01/10/2018 16:51

Is he Woman Friday?

scotsheather · 01/10/2018 18:57

It was so ridiculous I thought it was a skit or some manfriday in reverse. But nothing surprises me anymore in this debate.

NameChangedAgain18 · 01/10/2018 19:48

I think the point of him / her is that you simply don't know whether he / she is genuine or not. Which will be the case with any self-identifying male who enters the women's changing room.

PleasingFungusBeetle · 01/10/2018 19:59

Hi, I'm a lurker who is delurking because I don't want anyone to be deceived: while much in this area looks like satire and isn't, I'm pretty sure from googling his name that this IS satire, or at least mischief

I'm not sure he is that concerned with women's rights - from a brief scan of the articles he seems to mostly think that it is funny. He is a guy who is known for doing mischievous stunts - "Artist and author Ibi-Pippi Orup Hedegaard has in recent years deceived many Danes with his provocative art"

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 01/10/2018 20:04

Yes. I think he's a performance artists, a comedian, a provocateur. As Namechanged says - the uncertainty of know whteher he's real or fake is the point

SPOFS · 01/10/2018 20:45

Denmark has gone full TRA. I used to have a Danish friend that would not hear one word against the ideology and used "cis" every other sentence. It was scary.

nauticant · 01/10/2018 20:51

I approve of the impact the actions of Ibi-Pippi Orup Hedegaard make. Whatever his motivations might be.

redexpat · 01/10/2018 21:09

Denmark has gone full TRA. I disagree. Have been living here for 11 years and the only time I've seen anything trans was the last vehicle at Pride. I've never heard any discussions about it.

heresyandwitchcraft · 01/10/2018 21:44

Well, I really like this video. The whole point is that despite Ibi-Pippi's past as a provocateur, there is literally no way of disproving their claim of being a woman, and in fact intent does not even play a part in who gets to be a woman under self-ID. It's honestly anyone who says "I am a woman." The story has been reported elsewhere in the media. IMO, it isn't just a YouTube satire clip. AAIK there hasn't been any media coverage of this individual being prosecuted for changing gender maliciously, either... It points out how stupid complete self-declaration of gender is, and makes you wonder what your local swimming pool would do if faced with this situation. Then you finish watching the video, you look at the state of this debate, and you realize you cannot honestly draw any line as to "real" or "fake" anymore. It demonstrates the impossibility of assessing intent, because it only relies on someone's word. Ibi-Pippi says this gender-marker is very important to them! So we can SEE how ridiculous self-ID is, that there are no real safeguards. Because ANYONE who says they're a woman is a woman, that'll be the legal definition!
So I share the video because it illustrates all of these issues beautifully.
And then you see the real-life examples, like the Metro reporting on a convicted paedophile sex-offender who we can all safely assume is a male with a penis as a "woman" (I believe they amended their title later to say trans person). Jess Bradley flashing "her penis," and take a peek at Alex Drummond who is legitimately on the board of Stonewall's trans advisory committee as a trans woman who still sports a full beard.
So you wonder where the world is coming to.

I thought he was making a point too. Like Mark Thomas used to do, or Louis Theroux's earlier documentaries
