So I’m being brave

I’ve lurked here for a good while, been on MN for many years under different names.

I don’t think I’ve ever posted in FWR as quite frankly it terrifies me because the intellect here is outstanding.

But I’ve realised this fight that I’ve been reading about, that I’ve been incredulous about is going to affect us all and so I can’t sit back anymore. I need to get involved.

So how do I help? I follow some people on twitter but links (even by PM) to places I can go for more info and how to help would be appreciated.

If anyone wants to know I’m genuine then please PM me, happy to answer questions. I just want to add my voice to the crowd.

Hi june I'm new here to, but this is a good place to start

I think Fair Play for Women's website is very good and gives lots of tips.

I've ordered a campaign pack (£2) and will be handing them out at my yoga class tonight.... I am really nervous.

UpstartCrow · 01/10/2018 13:51

Hi June Don't be afraid to post, get stuck in. Very few posters are intellectual heavyweights Smile

I leave leaflets everywhere I go. I leave them on the bus, in shopping trolleys and baskets, and on supermarket shelves among the Tampax.

rainbowgrimm · 01/10/2018 13:58

Hi June, have you filled in the government consultation? Fair play for women have a step by step guide on their website, will take 5mins.

Things to do (please) include (you might want to flip the thread so you can see the up to date items):

]]

Read the Fair Play for Women site - they have guidance.

If it's safe for you, talk to people you know.

Write to your MP or make an appointment to discuss relevant issues (lots of guidance on FWR).

Maybe obtain a T-shirt or bag. :)

Sorry, my connection is jumping and it's playing havoc with formatting:

Have you filled in the Consultation. That's really important right now. I've been putting it off as it sounds daunting but I will do it this week.

Welcome June
For those who are unable to go public for whatever reason, you can still help.
You are the eyes and ears of this campaign.
This is why the stickerwoman worked so well. It was done by lots of individuals, everywhere.
A poster here mentioned buying a newspaper, with a relevant article on show, preferably with a picture then leaving it in a supermarket trolley.
Leave a magazine on a public area, maybe even highlighting a paragraph or two.
Watch and wait.
Be on alert in public areas for the AGP's, they are wolves in sheep's clothing.

Pictures, articles, memes, all truthful, will help to get the message across.
We are anonymous and they don't know who we are.
There are so many of us. We just need to leave messages of truth EVERYWHERE.
All the public spaces you can think of.

The proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act is an infringement of our rights.
How fucking dare they.
And, most importantly, children need protecting from the idiots who promote this stuff.
The wider public are on our side.

LittlePearl · 01/10/2018 14:34

Hi June,

Just wanted to reassure you that my intellect certainly won't terrify you.
Grin

Wrathofjurgenklop · 01/10/2018 14:35

And if I come across a wolf in my local sports shower room.
I will be there.
(I am old so I don't care)

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/10/2018 14:38

Intellectual I ain't.
Welcome June

ShotsFired · 01/10/2018 14:40

gendercritter Have you filled in the Consultation. That's really important right now. I've been putting it off as it sounds daunting but I will do it this week.

I did it yesterday afternoon with the FPFW guidance and a cup of tea next to me. It's more tedious than difficult tbh. I recommend a proper mouse and keyboard to help cut and paste and edit text more easily.

MynameisJune · 01/10/2018 14:49

Thanks all, will head over to the Fair play for women site and start reading. Plus order some leaflets and start leaving them in places I go!

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 01/10/2018 15:15

I travel a lot by train and always leave a few leaflets around.

Also write to your MP. Mine isn't on Twitter and has to have his emails printed out for him to reply to by letter(!) so I'm still waiting for his reply, but I'm hoping that he'll be robustly GC.

I know what you mean about the intellect displayed here - it can be quite daunting! Mine certainly doesn't intimidate anyone though Grin

DontCisgenderMe · 01/10/2018 15:16

Hi June, love the user name!

I'm currently ploughing through the consultation, which is open until 19 October. Fortunately, you can save it and keep coming back to do it in installments. I seem to be writing reams, but you don't have to. Fair Play For Women have a step by step guide online.

I have also bought the leaflets from Fair Play For Women. I had thought about making my own stickers, but it was just easier to buy the leaflets. Ideally, you would hand them out personally to other women so that you can actually speak to them about it, but you can also leave them in suitable places for people to read. I have left a lot of mine in toilets and changing rooms, but also on the train, at the doctors and around a museum! I'd not thought of shopping trolleys, UpstartCrow, that's a good one, thanks!

BlackeyedSusan · 01/10/2018 15:19

@Penny1976

Good luck at yoga.

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/10/2018 17:31

My MP has drunk the Kool aid, so I'm going to write to her 🐌 mail, and I'm going to cut out lots of newspaper cuttings, her staff might be a bit more open minded
