A fantastic YouTube video has just gone up called Elf v Goth but I can't seem to link it if someone else could it would be most appreciated!

It's long, over an hour but very interesting and covers a lot of ground. They are both very supportive of women as Fionn says, she wants her sister, grandmother, mum and toddler niece to be safe and how activists such as Dr. Harrop ONLY attack women. Fionn was also of the opinion that it's men that are ones who really have a problem with trans women. Fionn calls Miranda a Prophet/Prophetess for anticipating where all this ideology would end up going.

They are both great, I have watched about half so far.

Thank you both for taking the time to make an excellent video.

They are both drinking wine and Fionn must be a cheap date as I think she's on her first glass but is starting to slur GrinWine

I watched it too. It looks like a real mentor relationship, from the outside - Miranda is very patient and encouraging, Fionne obviously looks up to M (sorry - I really can't remember pronouns right now, I think both are flexible/don't care but I don't want to go to the gulag, I have work to do Hmm). I'm deeply saddened that Fionne seems to have lost hope already and is scared of people like Halfwit.

Miranda makes the very good point, several times, that these activists have no joy in their lives.

A bit of cognitive dissonance for me as Fionn is a very masculine name - think Beowulf.

Following to watch later

My sons both make this point about student politics and SJW generally, including but not limited to, trans issues. "Most miserable parties ever."

IdaBWells · 01/10/2018 17:20

Totally agree and I think the point also made by the journalist in her article in The Times today (who knows, maybe she listened to this over the weekend). How can you have joy when you are demanding that everyone around you live a lie so you can feel comfortable? Joy is associated with openness, freedom and truth.

This was great, good points made. Fionne is very sweet and seems vulnerable but is also emerging as a voice of good sense. Plus a rat launched itself off her head which was funny. I hope they do another.

boatyardblues · 01/10/2018 17:43

Fionne is similar to the Welsh spelling of Fiona, no? Does’t sound masculine to me.

IdaBWells · 01/10/2018 17:46

The animals definitely added another dimension, especially that neither of them take themselves too seriously and are able to show vulnerability and empathy.

Fionn (pr fyonn) is a very popular name in Ireland, as is the name of his son, Oisin.

I watched live last night, it was two people talking naturally, having a drink with a 100 people listening in.

Fionne said in all the time as trans (5 years?) he's (he doesn't care) only ever been hassled once in the street by a white van man shouting "you're a tr@@ee" at him, so he absolutely doesn't believe all these claims of constant bullying and intimidation.

Worth a watch.

Prior showed up to snipe.

Well done Miranda.

silentcrow · 01/10/2018 18:08

Fionne is a Welsh girl's name for me - went to school with one. I like the ambiguity of it, it suits him.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/10/2018 18:15

Ffion means foxglove in Welsh.

NKFell · 01/10/2018 18:20

I'll watch this- thank you for alerting me Grin

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 01/10/2018 21:20

Agree with Crazytoast and hope they both do a follow up. Miranda's analysis is so sharp and I think Fionne's perspective is very interesting and would like to hear more. I'd also probably tune in as I like the way his mixes feminine and masculine - the ethereal style of dress/ make up etc with his natural voice
