There was a trailer this morning on Today, for Any Questions this evening to include discussion on the Girl Guides - transgender issues and firing a GG leader.

It might be worth a listen.

Who is on the panel?

SquishySquirmy · 28/09/2018 13:44

Sian Berry from the Green party (know where she will stand!)
Iain Dale off LBC (prob identifies as a Trans ally??? not sure)
Tory minister Margot James (Assume she will fudge around the issue and not want to address it)
Labour MP and Corbyn ally Chris Williamson MP (Assume he is another woke-dude).

SquishySquirmy · 28/09/2018 13:45

That's who will be on according to the website. Can't see anyone there likely to adopt a gender critical position.

SPOFS · 28/09/2018 13:48

Will the whole show be about GG? Or will it just be one question?

SquishySquirmy · 28/09/2018 13:51

Althoug, reading up on Margot James, this is interesting:
"James served on the board of Parkside NHS Trust, and worked as a Mental Health Manager. She spent ten years as a trustee of Abantu, an African women's charity, during which time she trained women from more than 40 different African countries in communications and lobbying skills. She has also worked as a mentor for The Prince's Trust and Young Enterprise.[2] She sits on the Court of Governors at LSE."

You would hope this means that she is at least aware of the need for some organisations and charities to have a single sex focus.
Sadly, I rather doubt she would stick her head above the parapet on this issue, no matter what her personal opinions are.

SquishySquirmy · 28/09/2018 13:52

I will be just one question I would have thought?
tbf, there are a lot of other issues to cover at the moment!

SquishySquirmy · 28/09/2018 13:52

^It not I

Manderleyagain · 28/09/2018 13:53

One question.

Lottapianos · 28/09/2018 13:57

Margot James is totally gender critical, last I heard anyway. Chris Williamson is most likely a woke bro. Iain Dale - really not sure. Sian Berry - ugh.

Should be interesting. Or infuriating. Or both!

misscockerspaniel · 28/09/2018 14:49

Earlier this year, Margot James retweeted a Janice Turner article.

JaneR0chester · 28/09/2018 15:21

It'll be one of several topics that they cover, it was mentioned in the trailer amongst other things (I forget what). It's repeated at Saturday lunch time, with a public phone in Any Answers straight afterwards I believe.

Does anyone feel able to phone in on Saturday?

I'm afraid I can't because I'm hopeless at expressing myself under pressure but judging from the quality of their posts I'm sure some MNetters on FC would do a good job.

Ah. I know about Any Questions and how it works.

People will have arranged tickets in advance.
When you arrive, you can write as many questions as you like on separate pieces of paper.
They are collected in and the production team chooses around 12 questions.
The people who wrote the questions are called to sit in the front row, and given a typed copy of their question.
If their question is called they get to ask it. But there are more questions selected than chosen due to timing constraints.

The production team don't know beforehand what questions will be submitted. If no one submits a question re GG then there won't be one asked. Though they are obviously expecting questions as it is currently topical.

Blimey, two of those locations are North Yorkshire (ish). I wonder if some BBC bods are scouting for affordable holiday homes and have realised that the East Coast line goes all of the way up there.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/09/2018 20:29

we had two any questions nearish here recently, so it is not unprecedented to so a return visit to an area.

SPOFS · 29/09/2018 17:19

Is his listening to on catch up?
