Sorry if this has been posted, I've just seen it.

As the title says really, Hungary are planning on stopping these courses because of the lack of jobs in the field (so they say).

However, some are suggesting it's because the government are homophobic?

I wonder if it has anything to do with the rise in TRA ideology though?

I lived in Budapest a couple of years ago and the populace was pretty liberal. The city is really cool like Shoreditch without the Hipsters.Easy to dismiss Eastern Europe as backwards but it's just another part of Europe.

Its hard to judge the politics because not being able to speak Hungarian really stops you following current affairs. My mate how still lives there says it's got really bad since I left though.

I wonder how much is due to Orbans very public beef with Soros?

I was wondering that DJ - Orban is trying very hard to get the University of Europe (funded by Soros) shut down - in fact a quick web search informs me the university is planning on upping sticks and moving to Vienna (though that rumour comes from Breitbart so may well be a complete pile of shit).

More reputable source: NY Times informs me that having been threatened with being shut down by Orban's government, the university has now been re-accredited for the next 5 years:

But arts and humanities departments rarely fare well under authoritarian regimes. (Nor do sciences which are politically contentious - cf Soviet enthusiasm for Lysenko's rather ropey theories of genetics, or the Harper government in Canada back 5 years ago or Trump now suppressing climate research/ pulling the funding.)
