Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

A small victory for victims of grooming

This is My first thread in feminism chat.

I just wanted to say there is a Sikh organisation which is aiming to help victims /potential victims of grooming /sex gangs.

Today they are broadcasting a three hour show about the matter. They are a small organisation manned by volunteers and although they don’t have the snappiest production techniques etc they have managed to raise £28,000 since the programme started at 7pm. It’s still going up.
That money will be used to help girls (not just Sikh girls but any girl that requires help dealing with predatory groomers)
What a difference that amount of money could make to young girls in crisis.

The money raised now stands at £42,000. People’s generosity and concern for these girls is truly touching.

can you tell us what it is called ?

daughterofanarchy · 17/09/2018 00:02

Sorry for my late response newtlover. The organisation are called Sikh Youth Birmingham uk. They have a Facebook page under that name. They worked with the Sikh channel (sky 748) to Produce the programme. They raised £89, 000 tonight through a donation platform(think it’s against forum rules to post the name of the platform but unsure) and a further 60k was pledged through telephone donations.

That's amazing, well done. I'll go check out the org, sounds like it's a very worthwhile cause.

SturdyEarmuffs,

It really is worthwhile. I grew up in a community where this grooming was widespread. It wasn’t just Sikh girls but white girls and others as well. The authorities would not take it seriously. I have older cousins who recall this happening as far back as the early eighties and they were called deluded when they tried to
Alert authorities. children have been failed by the system.

That's a brilliant charity. Sadly I can't contribute as I am on preposterously low income. But I can bump.

Amazing charity, incredible people.Flowers

A worthwhile cause, well done

daughterofanarchy · 18/09/2018 09:28

It’s a cause that is so close to my heart. I had a vulnerable friend who was targeted by a gang. Even to this day she struggles to see these men as her abusers. She ended up in care because her parents couldn’t cope with it all, but the issue just got worse.
