Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

This FB thread actually sums up all that is wrong with feminism today

Have resisted commenting but fucking hell.

It’s all there.

Nakedness is empowering!
Sex work is work!
Trans women are women!

Amidst the casual use of TERF, demands to ‘Do better’, ‘Delete this post’, aggressive policing of who has liked posts that display wrong think.

These people, largely young daft women and TRAs, TERRIFY me with their authoritarian humourless intolerance. These are the people who were demanding witches be burned 300 years ago.

I actually fear for a future in 20-30 years when this lot are in charge. Rooting through people’s ancient social media history for evidence of past wrongthink. It makes me want to move to the darkest Amazon to be honest. So frightening.

I can't help but think she might learn a bit more about feminism here or even Keith who hangs out in front of the petrol station down the road.

Juells · 16/09/2018 09:56

I wish they had a simple way to donate - I'd give via Paypal, but couldn't see an option. Tried the JustGiving link but it wanted all your details, not just email but name and setting up an account. Am I being dumb? Is there a simpler way to donate that's just clicking a button, like Paypal?

Pringlesaddict · 16/09/2018 09:59

@juells Paypal link here

Your wish is my command! Or go to the main website and click on the link on the left hand side of the picture.

Blackberrypiesforbreakfast · 16/09/2018 10:00

I think the Justgiving page is the only online option unfortunately...

Don't worry, by then the public will be aware of all the abuse scandals created by the lack of basic intelligence and experience safeguarding this entails. The law suits will have started from all the previously perfectly healthy kids who were sterilised to confirm with this ideology, and now live with the consequence.

All the social media woke will obviously be horrified by this, and claim that no one warned them etc. There will be a lot of government enquiries and committees who will spend years working out that no one was to blame, but that perhaps lobby groups shouldn't be completely believed. Until the next time they are taking me out for lunch.

It is all a bit reminiscent of the PIE scandal mixed in with a bit of the medical vogue for frontal brain lobotomies.

Society won't inherently change, it's the poor individuals who will be centre of this story, we should worry about. But it'll be those individuals who later fix this by their legal actions.

The social media, virtue signalling, idiots should be ignored.

I think you do have to slightly mad to do yoga for fun

I do yoga because it improves my flexibility and focus for martial arts. Maybe I should post that and watch some heads explode Grin

Haven't GWA been targeted recently - was it them that lost CiN funding for not letting men in? Or am I confused with another charity there?

Blackberrypiesforbreakfast · 16/09/2018 10:17

It was Glasgow Rape Crisis who lost funding I think.

Thanks Pringles.

GWA will be wondering why donations are suddenly appearing on a Sunday morning Grin

MrGHardy · 16/09/2018 10:24

"You learn something new every day - for example I didn't know yoga was the sport of choice.

Must buy a mat!"

I was buying safety mats but got a yoga mat instead - must be a sign, no? Can I join in?

Blackberrypiesforbreakfast · 16/09/2018 10:26

Welcome to the TERF yoga club, MrG! We may be hateful bigots who should die in a fire, but at least we can do it with toned thighs!

"I actually fear for a future in 20-30 years when this lot are in charge"

I have suspected for a long time that I'd be a handmaiden if it was 30 years ago - I spent much of my time spitting "Fascist" at everyone who didn't agree with me á la Jane Horrocks in Life Is Sweet and I truly believed what I thought was right and if you disagreed with me you should be re-educated.

Fuck knows what pish I'd be spouting on SM if it had been around in my day. I was young, thought I knew it all and I was an arse - it was ever thus.

I think the majority will grow out of this and see reason eventually. Not sure how fucked up things will get wrt the rights of women and girls before that though...

Also donated - GWA are my local WA.

Manderleyagain · 16/09/2018 10:32

Journalist Nick Cohen wrote a long piece a couple of yrs ago on how we have got to this stage of endlessly and aggressively policing language instead of actually acting for change. I think he's right even in his criticism of the feminist movement for its part in bringing this about. Can't link but the title is PC revolution devours it's own. On nickcohen.net

Manderleyagain · 16/09/2018 10:38

Terryleather I'm sure many people will see their former selves in these eejits and the one who wrote how lovely gulags were. We couldn't publish our daft opinions for the world to see back in the day. They will be deleting histories in the future when they've changed their minds. It worries me that universities are not places to hear opposing views or have them challenged any more. When I was an undergrad in the 90s there was a consensus for free speech but that has been lost. These people will be running institutions without having ever had to question their own thinking.

terryleather · 16/09/2018 10:41

The urge to police language by the left has always been there Manderley, but I think it seems worse now because of SM - free rein to call out the un-woke all day long.

Also debate is very polarised at the moment, I'm not sure when that started but I noticed it hugely during the Indyref and it's only got worse with Brexit and Trump.

terryleather · 16/09/2018 10:47

Agreed. This is the most worrying part, the loss of free speech.

Maybe the idea of uni being a safe space is another cultural change brought partly about by the fact that students are paying for their education and feel they are customers - and the customer is always right!
